Jeff Burton's comments after the Daytona 500 on his current friend and former teammate:
As good as I feel for (Richard Childress Racing) and Kevin, I feel that bad for Mark. Mark Martin is a champion. I don’t care if he ever wins a championship. He’s a champion. I don’t care if he ever wins the Daytona 500. He’s a champion. But it would be nice for Mark Martin to be able to see the hardware on the trophy case — for him.
But to the competitors, he has so much respect. Not only as a competitor, but as a person. He’s a world-class individual and driver and mainly person. You do a whole lot more living than you do driving, and when Mark Martin steps away from the race car, he’ll have friends and he’ll go on to live a really good life.
Class act Jeff, thats what you are. Very nice and true comments about Mark.
there has been a lot of talk around my circle that harvick should have conceded the win to mark but even though he is one of my favorite drivers i'm not sure i agree with that , nor do i think he would have wanted it that way . if he hadnt got loose in the corner this whole conversation would probably be a mute point anyway . one race wont change who mark is or what he has done . and as a laugher he should be pretty used to finishingsecond by now ...lol..guess that wasnt really funny but you get my point . he will still go down as one of the best.....true class act on jeffs part though...kudos !
