COT tightens things up for qualifying

Well I missed qualifying on TV but looking at the lineup there are plenty of surprises. The smaller teams must love the COT since it tightens up the field. Speeds were really close in qualifying which allowed some teams to sneak into the race when they were having trouble before.

Jeremy Mayfield and AJ Allmendinger make their first race of the year... they have to love that. Waltrip and Reutimann miss again.

A surprise, Paul Menard misses the race along with Johnny Sauter who looked good in testing at Bristol. Huge surprise.... Joe Nemechek misses the race. My wife asked me which $5,000 I thought would stand the best chance of making the race. I told her Nemechek.... D'oh!  oh well.... Quite a few people picked him actually.

What happened to Kurt Busch? He was way off the pace in his attempt.

Good thing we don't pick drivers for qualifying.... My highest driver is 18th place. I just hope my drivers can move up from the back of the pack.... lots of good cars back there I see.

While it was good to see smaller teams make it in the field, I continue to wonder how much longer Napa and Toyota will tolerate Mikey not making races. Gordon, Stewart, Johnson all qualified well. As far as Kurt Busch...his car was tight and couldnt stay down in the corners. Nemechek just didnt have any speed.
