All Star Race revision

Since the points system is being changed next year, I increased the points received during the all star race. Since the all star race is handled differently than the normal races, the points are different as well. Please look at the rules of the all star page that will appear on the new site, and provide any feedback.

The second annual All-Star Challenge will take place on May 21, 2005. To be eligible for the race you must have met at least one of these criteria:

1. Having won a race in 2004 or at any point in 2005 prior to the All-Star Challenge.

2. Be a past champion.

3. Be a previous winner of the All-Star Challenge

4. The team that has picked the most race winners in 2005

5. The team that has picked the most pole winners in 2005

For those teams that are not eligible, they will still participate in the race. However, they will be grouped into a separate pool. Those members will receive half the points that they earn in the race (Rounded to the higher number if it's an odd number). The team that scores the most points in that pool will be considered the All-Star Open winner and they will receive full points.

How To Play

Unlike normal races where race points are converted to standings points, the points that you earn here will be added to your standings points.

Pick the Top 10 Finishers of the Nextel Cup All Star Challenge. The point breakdown is as follows:

Correctly Pick the winner: 100 points

Top 10 prediction points: If the drivers you pick end up in the top 10, you will receive 10 points for each driver.

Right on the Mark Bonus Points:If you correctly pick a driver's spot in the 10, you will receive 25 bonus points for each driver.

1-2 Spot Bonus Points: If you correctly predict a driver within two spots of where he finishes, you will receive 10 bonus points. If you correctly predict a driver within one spot of where he finishes, you will receive 15 bonus points. The driver must finish in the top 10 though. (You won't get points for a driver if he finishes 11th and you picked him 10th).

All Star Open Bonus: Correctly pick which driver will advance from the All Star Open race to the Nextel Cup Challenge: 50 points.

Bonus points for finishing first: 50 points

Bonus points for finishing second: 40 points

Bonus points for finishing third: 30 points

Bonus points for finishing fourth: 20 points

Bonus points for finishing fifth: 10 points

Bonus points for finishing 6-10th: 5 points

If you correctly pick the winner you will receive a total of 135 points for that driver. 100 points for picking the winner, 10 points for placing in the top 10 and 25 points for the on the mark bonus. If you correctly pick any other driver you will receive a total of 35 points for each.

Most possible points to gain from this event: A whopping 450 points!

All-Star Cash Challenge: You have the opportunity to wager money on this race. The entry fee is $5 per person. The fee must be paid before the race, if not received, you will not be eligible to play for cash. The race winner (or highest finisher in the Cash Challenge) will get the whole pot. You do not have to be in the All-Star field to play the Cash Challenge. The points you earn for the Cash Challenge will not be cut in half, like the league points. Please visit the Money Pit page for payment options.
