CONCORD, N.C. -- Hendrick Motorsports will not have the ability to field No. 8 entries for Dale Earnhardt Jr. when the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver joins the organization in 2008.
"We've been working hard to secure the No. 8 for Dale Jr.'s car number next season," said Marshall Carlson, general manager of Hendrick Motorsports. "Obviously, he has a tremendous history with that number, and we know how important it is to his fans. Unfortunately, we couldn't reach a point where the terms made sense, and now we have to move forward with other options.
"We appreciate the efforts of Max Siegel and his team (at Dale Earnhardt Inc.), and are excited about unveiling our plans for 2008 in the near future."

I wonder if we'll ever get to hear what the terms were. Was it just money or something else? I'm sure DEI wanted a proceed of the souvenir sales as well.
I guess we'll wait and see if it's going to be the #5 or a competely new number.
Bummer, oh well.... All those fans with 8 tattoos will have a fun time now.
Lou, your right, we will never really know why he could not get the 8. I figured if TEI was gonna have Bud as the sponsor for who ever she puts in that car, it would be a money thing. But, next year if Bud is not the sponsor of the 8 car at TEI, it was all out of spite! You should read all the threads on IP, it has been "bash" Teresa tonight!
Yea I watched the QVC thing, and I am making a prediction........IT WILL BE 81! I just wish they would get it out, so I can start buying my new stuff.......lol.
