IROC... (not LROC) officially dead

The IROC Series, which was what the LROC series was initially based off of has had the last nail driven into its coffin.

Everything owned by IROC will be auctioned off in March. 15 race cars and memorabilia will be sold, at its Tinton Falls, NJ location..... not far from me actually.  Too bad I didn't have a few thousand dollars to bid on an IROC car, lol.

Here is the auction website: http://www.auctionlistservices.com/08irocracecars/index.htm

Too bad that the IROC league had to come to a close after 30 years.

Oh well.... LROC lives on at least!

I didn't see anything where they actually said it was over....maybe they are just liquidating current inventory to make room for improved cars!

well, I can hope can't I?

Lou, your sources are pretty good....and extremely far ahead of the regular AP. LOL

This just got announced in the Stock Car Gazette:

The International Race of Champions (IROC series) officials announced today the All-Star auto racing series will liquidate all tools, equipment, race cars and memorabilia in a two-day public auction on March 7th and 8th at IROC headquarters in Tinton Falls, NJ. The IROC series has been dormant since the conclusion of the 2006 season due to lack of sponsorship.

IROC President Jay Signore said, Were all very sad to see IROC come to an end, but the competition for major corporate sponsorship is very tough and the car manufacturers have not shown any interest. We kept hope alive as long as we could but now its time to look forward and move on.

Spanning four decades the IROC series left its mark in auto racing history staging 120 events at 16 different world-class race tracks across the United States and amassing a roster of over 125 of the biggest names in stock car, open wheel and road racing from throughout the world. Twenty-one of those greats have won the elite IROC championship along with the bragging rights of beating out the best of the best.

It's a shame to see the series go... hard to believe they could never find a sponsor.
