The plan is finally in place for Joey Logano to begin his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series career, with a handful of races scheduled this season in Joe Gibbs Racing Toyotas. A source close to the team said Saturday that Logano will run six or seven Sprint Cup races with sponsorship from Gatorade between now and the end of the 2008 campaign, in an effort to gain NASCAR approval for Logano to run for Raybestos Rookie of the Year honors next season. Plans call for the 18-year old Connecticut native to make his Sprint Cup debut at Richmond International Raceway on September 6th, with additional races to be announced within the next 2-3 weeks. He will also run the ARCA ReMax Series race at Talladega Superspeedway for Venturini Motorsports, to satisfy NASCAR requirements for him to compete in the 2009 Daytona 500.
Well, I guess any time now, or at least by Richmond, they'll be making the formal announcement of Logano going into the #20 car.
I wouldn't guess Richmond would be the best track to start at, but I guess that's why I don't have a Cup Team! LOL
Why would Gibbs have to convince Nascar to let Logano run for ROY? He will be old enough, he would have run a few races this year (which I never thought was a requirement), and he will run all next year.
i think you can go for rookie title if you run less than either six or eight races the previous year . am assuming they want to get him experience at that level without compromising his eligibility , thats a screwed up word to try and spell . lol . do know he will have to have track time on super speedway before they will let him run Daytona or Dega in cup cars
