Have been thinking about the Truck Series and a change that might be cool, thought I would throw it out and see if anyone liked the idea or see if its even possible to do.
Instead of segment drivers why not segment teams, pick 5 drivers and those drivers are your team for 5 races. But the next segment you have to pick 5 new drivers, and this would go on till you picked the whole field during the year not being allowed to pick the same driver more then once in the year. It would really make you plan your picks out for the whole year to make a championship run, sure you could pick Ron, Mike, Todd, Johnny, and Erik as your first team but who would you pick the rest of the year. You would have to make a team that could produce points all year not just for one segment.
Well personally I really prefer having some control each week. With one segment driver and picking the rest of your team each week, you have a lot more control.
Also if you pick your same team, you might tie with somebody for 5 straight races if they pick the same drivers.
Plus you can't pick drivers that don't run every race: Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Travis Kvapil, ect.
Yes you would not have as much control, but I dont think the teams would be as alike as you think unless everybody took the top five in the points as their first segment team. And not having Kyle and Jimmie to pick would not be so bad, if their on the entry list then most of the teams take them anyway, theres not much strategy with these cup drivers other then if their on the list you better pick them (well maybe not Jimmie at Bristol Ha Ha). Just thought it would be interesting having to spread the good drivers over the 5 segments mixing in the rest of the field each segment and only using each driver once, hoping you put the drivers in while they are running well.
Well, it's really not a bad idea... it would be less picks for me to record each week, lol.
However, I also have a concern about it because the Truck series is the starting ground for everyone these days. I think if we did it this way there would be a lot more turn-around at this level. For people not used to submitting picks every week, they might forget, miss races, lose interest and drop out.
With the way the Truck series is run in the first start of the season, you could go 2 months without submitting a new set of picks.
At least they get to pick for every race which gets them more used to the idea when they move up to the Nationwide series.
I totally agree with that Lou. I think if we had segments and it was every 5 races before we pick again people would lose interest.
With the way the Truck Series schedule is it's hard enuff to remember when the races are. I mean sometimes there is a few weeks between each race already.
I think picking each week keeps you fresh personally.
Just a thought Lou, if we had to pick 5 NEW drivers every 5 weeks -- you would have to keep track of this to make sure that Players didnt pick the same drivers. Seems to be some extra work there.
That is true.... I'd have to create some kind of page that list every driver that everyone picked throughout the season. And people would still pick duplicate drivers I'm sure.
Thanks guys, Sometimes things sound great as your thinking of them. I like the idea and could manage to get my picks in when the segments were over, I just didnt think about how hard it would be on the other members or how much work it might ad to Lou, I thought it would be less work on him. But its just Research and Development and it never hurts to throw your ideas out in here.
We'd rather keep salary just in Cup. We like to give each league a different feel. The Cup series has salaries and teams, Nationwide has the Claim Jumper bonus driver and the Truck series has segment drivers.
