Nascar can be a joke

Heres a brilliant idea, inspect the cars BEFORE the race, wow that would take care of everything. Why wont they? Because they really dont care all that much. Every yr there are numerous infractions and all they get is a slap on the wrist. The whole teammates is another joke, most of the cars in a NASCAR race have zero chance of winning a race. They are there to help out the A drivers. Thats why Nascar will always take a back seat to the other major sports.

JJR, you crack me up..............you certainly know how to pick your drivers but yet you dont seem know much about the sport itself.

there is a pre-race inspection.............it was a problem this week just as years before because there wasnt an impound rule in effect

Harvick's infraction was caught in pre-race inspection, thats how everyone knew about it during the race. the 48 and 5 got caught afterwards because a) Nascar messed up in the first inspection, or b) they readjusted their cars respectively after Happy Hour.

and one last thing, Nascar is only second to Football anymore thats why they always reference it, they want to compete with it since they blow the others out in revenue and ratings.

ok, i lied, one more............believe it or not i do agree with you on one thing......the 'team concept' is only to help pad the pockets of the major owners

Ok so after inspection, you cant touch the car, problem solved.

Lets not kid ourselves, Nascar takes a backseast to NFL, NBA, college football and Bball, MLB and maybe even golf. Look at Sportscenter or ESPN.com, Nascar is buried. SUre Nascar call sell 125,000 in an event but if there was one NFL game a year, how many would you get.

Yeah, thats why wherever you go you see Tiger Woods number on the back of people's car.

Please.... I always see Nascar hyped up everywhere. From in restaurants, bars, retail stores, the grocery store, everywhere.  I don't think I can go throughout the say without seeing at least one reference of Nascar on something. It's the people's sport. Yeah, maybe it doesn't get the same exposure as the NFL, but it does get a lot of exposure and will keep growing.

Maybe Nascar is buried on espn sports center, because thats the one sport that they dont have the rights to televise. They broadcast all those other sports that you mentioned.

If ESPN gets the broadcast rights to Nascar, you will see it in the headlines on ESPN a lot more.

you took the words right out of my mouth about ESPN and Nascar..........anyone remember when they did have the rights to televise? you couldnt go three hours without seeing something stock car related.

its all about the money..........when NASCAR sold the rights to Fox and NBC, then ESPN who is owned by ABC stopped talking about it because that is advertising for the competition.   the only reason they mention it at all is because they still want us to tune in when they know: 1-hockey is dead, 2-golf is only exciting one out of every seven tourneys, 3-football season is way too short in tv land perspective, 4-without a true star or rivalry, the NBA has nothing, 5-baseball, gimme a break......it hasnt been americas sport since the eighties

You cannot gauge a sport popularity by watching ESPN or Foxsports. Its all about sponsors and what contracts they have with a particular sports league. I'm still waiting for a network to tell it like it is about a sport instead of catering to the athlete.

"Lebron, what were you thinking by taking that 3 point shot when you had your teamate down low for an easy two?"

The only sport you can get that from is boxing. Ever watch Larry Merchant after a big fight and ask the fighters questions. The best 5 minutes in sports.

Once you get outside America they cannot understand why we do not watch soccer , the world sport. I think Nascar hasn't reach its peak yet. I think they will still be able to grow and grow. They aren't in the pacific northwest yet and maybe the next step would be a race in Canada.

OK, let's get this straight.  Golf and football are far more popular than Nascar.  (And I hate golf!)  No, you don't see Tiger Wood's number on the back of a car, because he does not wear a number.  But I do notice many vehicles with their favorite team's helmet on it.

College sports also puts Nascar in the backseat.  In every office right now, you see people who know nothing about sports filling out the brackets.  And its not regional, like Nascar which hits primarily the south and a few spots along the edges of the country.

ESPN does not cover Nascar so much, because what highlights are you going to show other than crashes and a racer crossing the finish line?

I will say Nascar has passed hockey, because of obvious reasons.  Baseball, please-->despite all the problems there, the fans keep coming back and everyone watches the World Series.  I will give Nascar a thumbs up on this-the drivers do come out to the fans.  They seem like ordinary people, and not millionaire jocks who have no humility.  But I wish the drivers could speak to the the cameras without uttering 60 sponsors.

I don't care much for Nascar, but dont' mind it either.  The commentators can be a little annoying, and really need to explain things better for the lay people.  And shame on all those who are behind me in the standings-you guys are suppose to know racing.  I have no clue!

Nascar is primarily in the south?!?!?!!?

every year, another date is lost from the south and added where? out west.

new tracks are being proposed where? pacific northwest and upper northeast.

new busch track? where? mexico.

Nascar has expanded out of fan demand.....quite simply, they go where the money is freshest......and its not in the south any longer.

oh, and i for one did not watch the world series eventhough its been labeled as one of the best in many years.....well the whole red sox run anyway. why? because a crappy race at vegas beats the best world series anyday.

In terms of TV ratings, golf may sometimes get a higher overall share than NASCAR, but it depends on the venue. Different races at different tracks get higher ratings than certain golf events.

Yeah, it'll always take a backseat to the NFL, MLB and NBA though, but thats ok.

I was kidding about Tiger Wood's number on cars, I know he doesn't have a number, duh. I'm just saying you dont see people proudly displaying stickers, flags, license plates, magnets, whatever with his name all over it. Yeah, I do see cars with football and baseball teams on it, but it seems like NASCAR outnumbers them.

Besides, March Madness, NASCAR races are usually always more popular than normal college games.

And drivers have to mention sponsors because its their job. The more tv time that a drivers sponsor gets, the more likely that sponsor will resign that driver.

There is a better future in NASCAR. found this on Sports Business Daily:

Turnkey Sports Poll: Rating Sports And Television

The following presents Turnkey Sports Poll results for January ’05. The Turnkey Sports panel is currently composed of 400-plus senior-level sports industry execs spanning all professional and intercollegiate sports. Sponsors

I think Nascar is almost like in terms of popular radio show host who are associated with their product. Whether its Stern,Rush,Dr.Laura or Opie and Anthony. So as an ad agency when you see budweiser you think of JR. and Lowes you think of Jimmie. When you say VJ Sing, Phil Mickerson, Erine Eles or Sergio what sponser do you think of????? SEE thats why Nascar will one day be only second to NFL as far as sponsors go.  College is popular and always will be but you really can't sign college athletes to contracts.

If I have to watch stupid athletes point at the sky or to say "I like to thank the almighty for...." Then I can put up with the Jeff Gordon's of the world thanking pepsi and dupot.
