So who to the #6 car in 2006? Carl Edwards, driver of the #99 Roush Racing Ford, is no longer is slated to replace Mark Martin [retires from Cup at end of 2005] in the No. 6 after this season. "It's pretty obvious he's found a home in the 99," Smith says. "We're going to have to fill the 6 with someone else, and we don't know who that someone else might be." Smith says they will look at current Roush truck series driver Ricky Craven, a former Cup veteran, for the ride. But he expects other drivers in the garage to be interested: "That's a fantastic ride that's going to be available."(USA Today)(3-22-2005)
Somehow I can't see Ricky Craven promoting Viagra, lol. But then, who can? How about Ward Burton? Scary thought.
I think he will go with a rookie next year and not a veteran. Especially if Edwards continues to have a good year. He will get all the experience and then groom another rookie next year and keep them around for the next 10-15 years.
when is the Viagra contract up? alot of times, when a big-time driver leaves, so will the the sponser..........and then that would open up the opportunity to have the liquor company solely sponser one car all year with the seven or so liquors that they own......much like the 97 with Rubbermaid, Sharpie, and the other that escapes my mind right now.
then, the idea for a rookie to take over makes sense...i mean, if you have Kenseth, Biffle, Busch, and Edwards as your other four, you can afford to let a rookie in your fifth entry.
just checked, the Viagra contract is good through 2005. So yeah, Viagra might not be on the #6 car next year then. They'll probably remain in the sport though, probably go over to some other driver. Ahh, go over to Ricky Rudd. He's old and doesn't seem to be retiring yet. His Motorcraft sponsor is up at the end of the year, too.
Actually, you know what would be funny? Have Michael Waltrip get the contract with Viagra in whatever team he ends up with next year, probably won't be DEI. Can't you just picture Michael Waltrip promoting Viagra?
