If we are being honest about SR

If we are being honest, Sr has garnered more fans since his death than when he was racing, by FAR. Look no further than the most popular driver of the year 16 times, Bill Elliott. He beat SR 16 times, yet Bill is still alive still racing but whos more popular now? Sr or Bill? Sr was hated because of his dirty tactics, his crappy treatment of sponsors, track officials , fans, and fellow drivers. Jeff Gordon is hated today, because of one thing...he wins.

I dont want to beat on the man because it was a tragedy but the truth is his legend has grown since his death. He was respected by all but dislike by most everyone...

I don't know about that. If you ask me they all started rooting for Jr. Plus Jr. appeals to the younguns and that Bud sponsership doesn't hurt either. Probably been to 50-60 races easy over the years and the stands are as red now as they were black then. Every race at Atlanta,Dega, Charlotte anywhere in the south it's an earnhardt stronghold. Don't know bout these newer tracks but I'd bet it's the same. Good luck this weekend.

the real truth behind his popularity is the fact that the fans all know that the guys in the garage (drivers, crew members, owners) all knew Sr. and all respected him and looked up to him as a leader........it shows in every interview when his name is mentioned.

if you watched racing back then, then you would know that anytime the drivers disagreed with Nascar, they always wanted Dale Sr. to be the one to speak up and tell Nascar it wasn't going to go down like that.

in my opinion, the Chase never would have happened while he was around (not saying it isnt good)........remember when Jarrett protested to it? Nascar said yeh whatever sit down now.
