Bill Elliott has volunteered to help Atlanta become racings "Cooperstown". Atlanta is competing with Charlotte,Richmond,Daytona, and Kansas City for the new NASCAR hall of fame. (Kansas City??). Elliott contends that NASCAR started in Georgia and Atlanta deserves a good shot at this thing. Bids are due to Nascar by May 31. Land will be donated by a local developer in downtown Atlanta should they win with their bid. Thanks Bill. Got him to autograph an old 86 Ford Thunderbird Coors car yesterday!

It was announced today that Daytona will not be able to come up with the estimated 75 million it will take to land the bid. I forgot to mention Michigan is in the running to. Daytona may try private funding but it's 99% sure Daytona is done.

I personally think it should be in Charlotte, thats where the roots of racing are. If anybody has been through Moorseville, Race City USA and that whole area, It would definately be an appropriate place for the hall of fame.
Lived in Charlotte for about 12 years. My son and grandson still live there. I don't think Charlotte could support it. I hear what your sayin though. Charlotte just not big enough. Convention space is short, just not much tourism there. I guess that would be a start but ACC tourney is about the biggest draw there.
