Question

How are you able to draft enough players to complete a roster with that many teams(20)?

I was asked this question today and would like to get everyones view on this because this person made a good case against 20 teams in the League.

He said:  There are only 32 teams in the NFL which means only 32 QB's to draft, with 20 teams how can you each have 2 QB's to account for the bye weeks ? Same thing with WR's, only 2 per team in NFL start and you need at least 4 per fantasy team (80?). No different with the other positions either, the same applies. Drafting will be a long, drawn out affair also, just think if you draft at #1 your next pick is #40 if you are using a snake draft.

The only thing I can think of is use flex positions in key areas: (Q/W/R/T) this is one flex that gives you lots of room to put a player in. Heres the others (W/R/T): (W/R):  (W/T):

The more flex positions you have the more options you have.

Finding part time players that produce good points would be a gold mine in a league with 20 teams.

  Whats everyones thoughts

   Thanks

I think 20 teams is WAY too much, personally.

20 teams is gonna be tough with lack of good players but then it will also force everyone to do their homework a bit more and try to find some sleeper players way under the radar that might surprise.

20 does sound like a bunch.

If you need to get a few teams out, I will bow out. I'm not that big a football fan anyway. I will stay active if I play, but don't mind to give my spot to someone that's a bigger fan than me.

Just let me know.

I don't like the idea of turning people away either, nor the idea of people backing out to allow for room.

This would be what I propose:

Active Roster:

QB, WR, RB, WR/RB/QB, TE, K, DL, DB, DL/DB

Bench: eight spots plus one IR (that only a couple of teams will use anyway)

This would allow for 20 teams without watering down the league, the Flex position could go one of three ways and I'm sure all of us will have one star ready to fill that spot. All you would have to lose is Team Defense and the second IR spot.
Also, more of a problem I think would be the large Bench, that would allow 4-5 teams to hog all the good players when they could be in the free agent pool instead.

Those are my thoughts, what do you guys think?

I don't think anyone who signed up should have to back out. Nothing against those who want in, but you snooze you lose.

As for your idea Matt, that sounds ok but if you have a 17 man roster with 20 teams, that's 340 players (not including IR)!

What if we just start a 2nd 12 team league and if there are any spots remaining, have a few owners compete in both leagues if they want after all spots have been filled by the new teams?

I posted this at Lucky Dog Pig skin and wanted to post it here also so every would get a chance to see it, its regarding drafting with 20 teams and not being enough NFL players to go around for 20 teams.

You can set the Draft up for Snaking or Non-Snaking. If we set it to Non-Snaking then you would pick every 19 picks, that would be about the same amount in a 10 team League with Snaking type draft. I know what your thinking, It would be bad having to pick 19th and 20th in the draft. Unless we tried to set it up where all the players score the same average points, instead of everybody grabbing up the runnig backs at the start it might be better to grab a WR if you knew he would average just as many points as a stud running back does. Theres alot of players out there we just need to fix the point system to give all the teams in the league a chance to score points and be competitive. If we made WRs worth more then RBs then there would be more players to go around. You could make Kickers be just as important as RBs. We got the power to change the point system to work for us, why do RBs have to be the MVPs of the League.

Just a thought

We can have 2 leagues.

Nathan's league with 16 players

and a second league that I can create for the remaining players + some players who may like to play in both leagues.
