In a few weeks, NASCAR will be inducting their first class into the Hall of Fame. I think I would like to see a Lucky Dog Racing Hall of Fame with a class inducted each year as well. I don't think anyone would be opposed to this, so how would you shape it?
Here's how I see it:
The HOF should incorporate all three series... Cup, Nationwide and Truck.
It should involve all past and present members of LDR. You do not need to be a current member to enter it.
Factors that should contribute to a member entering it: Races participated in, championships, wins, top 5's, top 10's, provisionals used, activity in the forum, participation and performance in LDR's satellite Yahoo leagues and the LROC series. We could also take into account other bonuses they add to the league.
There should be a HOF board that reviews each candidate and selects the class each year. This can be done after a league wide vote as well.
So how would you like to see it created? what would you like it to look like?
Hall of Fame Board could review and select the members (past or present) into the H.O.F., but I think it would be cool if any current member could nominate a driver for consideration.
Hall of Fame Board should consist of 3-5 members.
Intial year of selection, 5 members (past or present) selected. Every year after that, a Maximum of 2 active players and a Maximum of 1 past player selected. Not every year would have to have Maximum Players selected.
Hall of Fame Board voting for selections--------majority vote? or unanimous vote?
Nominations to be public or private?
I can think of four players (one past player and three active players) that I would nominate for the Inaugaral Selection to be considered right now, but I will not reveal them until you want us too.
I think the Hall of Fame Board should be the only people to see the members that are being voted on and should post there results for everyone to see at the same time. I dont know if this would happen but, it might make a member feel bad or hurt if they see there name voted on over and over but never get in. I think if someone wants to nominate a member they should email it to Lou or the person running the Hall of Fame Board.
Lou, a great idea! I also think that the HOF board should be the voters to decide on entry into the HOF. League members could nominate and HOF board decide. I think the initial 3-5 Hall of Famers should be the board since we need to start somewhere.
Great idea!! Only question is, can a member of the HOF board be nominated, and if so, will they be able to vote?

First of all, a HOF bureau will need to be decided on. I think I would like to see 5 members on the HOF bureau, including myself. Once the bureau is set up, we will hammer out all the details on how the HOF is run, voting and the qualifications.
I would like to have veteran members on the HOF, having been in the league at least 3 years. Also, I would like those members to have experience in at least 2 of the 3 main series.
I might entertain the possibility of changing the HOF bureau members every 2 years or so.
After my vacation I will email the league for those interested in becoming a HOF member. They will just need to email me back reasons why they would like to be on the bureau and I'll accept the best candidates.
I think the idea of a HOF is awesome. I do have a couple thoughts on the criteria for selection. I think selection for the HOF should be solely based on their performance in the Lucky Dog Racing leagues(Cup, Nationwide, Truck and LROC). The idea of someone not getting into the HOF because they do not write in the forum is hard for me to understand. I do not write a lot in this forum, but I am in here a lot reading the articles. As for the criteria of participating in LDR satellite leagues, create HOF's for those individual leagues. Someone may not participate in the Yahoo racing league because they do not like the format.....how does that make them any less worthy for the LDRHOF? They may not participate in the football, baseball or golf because they do not like those sports. Again, these are just my thoughts. Some my agree, some may not. Anyway we look at it, having a HOF would be sweet.
Jordan, I agree with you that LuckyDog performance (cup, nationwide, truck, lroc) should be the most important aspect of determing someone's eligibility.
However, in just about all HOF, no matter the sport, they do look at contributions to the sport or league.........translation in here would be forums, satellite leagues, discussions over future rule changes and the like.
Maybe that could be a tiebreaker of sorts if it came down to two very eligible drivers who could each be perspective Hall of Famers.
I agree with you, and I am glad to hear that you feel their performance in the leagues should be the main focus for somebody getting into the HOF. Hopefully everybody else does as well. Using those other criteria for a tiebreaker could be the way to go.
That was my intention as well, that performance should be the main consideration into the HOF entrance, but to also take into account many of the other factors as well. Once we have our bureau set we can work that all out. I will send out the email sometime this week and start taking applications for the bureau.
I would be willing, but not sure if I have been around long enough to know everyone and their accomplishments.
