DOVER, Del. – It wasn’t a typical day at Dover International Speedway on Tuesday, July 19. The 140,000 seats were empty. The roar of an 800-horsepower NASCAR NEXTEL Cup engine was no where to be found.
Instead, a GMC Hummer with 22-inch wheels, vertical-open doors, four subwoofers, and a 42-inch flat screen plasma TV was parked at an angle on the frontstretch. 15 crew members scrambled to get the right angle. Hip-hop recording artists Mr. Reeze and Jeff Lake were strategically positioned on a set of Goodyear tires.
Reeze and Lake were at the Monster Mile to film “Over The Wall,” a song dedicated to pit crew members, and “You Can’t Catch Me.” The video footage will be used on NASCAR Nation, the popular one-hour program on the Speed Channel. The show is broadcast nationally Monday through Thursday at 7 p.m.
As best friends for 13 years and now business partners, they own a production company called Put Ya Hands Up, Inc. Their first hip-hop album, Change Your Name, is due out in February 2006.
“I like performing, entertaining, seeing people smile, and being good at what I do,” Lake said. “I love fans from all genres.”
Although this is their first venture into the world of NASCAR, they have been fans of the sport for a long time.
“I love NASCAR,” Reeze said. “Our favorite drivers are Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.”
---------This segment aired last week and the second song aired today. Decent songs and they actually talk about 20-sec. pitstops, crossing the pit box line, drafting....kinda cool and different. They also have a website, www.putyahandsup.com, and are based in Philly.
Very nice...now we can look forward to racing teams of Roush,Hendricks,Penske,Wood Brothers, DEI and DBI. DBI you ask? Well that's the new hip hop racing team. Drive By Inc. coming to a race track near you. The new team will try to race the Cadillac Escalade with 22 inch Sean John wheels and a 1800 watts stereo.
