After discussions from the council members Lucky Dog Racing will follow NASCAR's new "easier" points system in all three series. In addition we will also follow the new chase format of the top 10 drivers getting in while the remaining 2 spots will be occupied by members with the most wins. If there is a tiebreaker with wins, top 5's and top 10's will be used.
Since the league began back in 2004, we used our points system so this will be the first time that we follow NASCAR. It will be used for both points earned from your picks and in Lucky Dog Racing's standings.
For those not familiar with the points system, it is explained here:
The new points system -- which applies to all NASCAR national series -- will award points in one-point increments. As an example, in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, race winners will earn 43 points, plus three bonus points for the win. Winners also can earn an extra point for leading a lap and leading the most laps, bringing their total to a possible maximum of 48 points. All other drivers in a finishing order will be separated by one-point increments. A second-place finisher will earn 42 points, a third-place driver 41 points, and so on. A last-place finisher, 43rd place earns one point.
Since Lucky Dog Racing's Nationwide series and Truck series maximum cap are larger than the Cup series, we will use an expanded points system. The winner in the Nationwide series will receive a base of 45 points with 3 extra points added for the victory. The Truck series winner will receive 54 points with 3 points added. The points in these 2 series will remain constant regardless if we have a full field or not.

If a driver finishes 3rd and leads the most laps does he get 44 points, or does only the winners get bonus points?
