Congratulations to Gary Wheat who pulled off a last week pass to become the 2011 Streak to the Finish champion!
Lou Demian had been leading the standings for some time and had built himself up a lead but his picks at Phoenix did him in. That allowed Gary to pass him if he was successful with his Nationwide pick this week.
The two members were separated by 21 points coming into the final week. Neither member had a truck streak, so not much could be gained there is they were both successful. Lou picked Harvick and Gary picked Hamlin who finished one spot ahead.
Separated now by 20 points, Gary went for it in the Nationwide race by picking Denny Hamlin who gave him 6 points plus 30 for his 6 week streak. Lou had a total of 13 points in the Nationwide race, so Gary gained 23 points on him to put him in the lead by 3. Gary had the same Cup driver, so there could be nothing more gained by Lou. With a 2 week Cup streak Gary gained 10 more points in the and ended the season 13 points in front.
Gary becomes the fourth different driver to win the Streak to The Finish championship, joining Lou Demian, Stephen DiCaprio and Jessy Turgeon.
For his winnings, he will receive a $25.00 gift certificate to NASCAR.com and since a Lucky Dog Racing driver did not win the LROC championship, he will receive an invitation on the LDR 2012 LROC team.
As for the final race, the top score of the week went to Mitch McCown who actually ended up having the largest score of anyone this year. Mitch ended the season with a 4 week Cup streak, 3 week Nationwide streak and a 9 week Truck streak which was the largest of the season. Mitch scored a total of 107 points which put him into a tie with Stephen DiCaprio for the largest weekly score of all time.
I bet Mitch is wishing there were a few weeks left in the season! He ended the year in 7th place after gaining 2 spots in the final week.
Ron Blackman had the 2nd highest score of the week with 85 points while Natalie Jones was 3rd with 84 points.
Gary Wheat finished in 1st, Lou Demian 2nd, Ray Perrotta 3rd, Stephen DiCaprio 4th, and Terry Howell 5th.
Thanks to everyone for playing this year and especially to those who made a consistent effort to get their picks in each week. It's good to see players remain playing even when they fall out of the run to the championship. I hope everyone will return next season!
