In case my user name didn't give it away, I am a huge Jason Leffler fan. Every fantasy league I do, I go by Lefflerfan. I use it on this site, the cool pool, everywhere. I feel like last night was a bad nightmare and I keep expecting to wake up and see that he is ok. I became a fan of his in 2000, when he drove in the Busch Series for Gibbs. Despite years of failed Cup chances, I stuck with him. A lot of people didn't like the way he drove. It was the way he drove that made me root for him. He wasn't afraid of pissing people off, he drove with no fear and he always spoke his mind. He also was one of the best when it came to fans. Always smiling, never saw him turn down an autograph. I have met him many times, including one year at Loudon when he drove the #11 Fed Ex car where I literally had my mom stalk him trying to get him to sign my #18 MBNA diecast car from his 2000 season. He signed it, took a picture and shook my hand. Even though he hasn't been in the major Nascar series much these past 2 years, it's going to be so weird not seeing him racing something, as he seemed like he would race anything with wheels on it. He died doing what he loved most. RIP Jason.
It sure is a terrible tragedy, that's for sure. I met him several times at different places over the years and was lucky enough to get a few autographs from him. He was always a nice guy when I would see him. Even though he didn't make a huge name for himself in NASCAR, he will be missed by a lot of people. Just like Dale Earnhardt, Dan Wheldon, Adam Petty, Neil Bonnet, Tony Roper and so many others, he died doing what he loved. God speed
