Mark McFarland realizes a goal at 180 mph

It's almost time for JR Motorsports debut in the Busch Series, and Mark will be a part of the 2006 NASCAR Busch Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year class.
Mark McFarland set many goals for himself when he began racing go-karts at the age of eight. Prior to the year 2006 he had been able to cross many off his list. As he strapped himself behind the wheel of his No. 88 Navy Chevrolet yesterday at Daytona International Speedway he was able to put a check mark beside a goal that has remained fresh in his memory for a long time.

“In my go-kart days we would always come down to Kart Week in Daytona, which was the Daytona 500 of dirt-track kart racing,” said McFarland. “I always dreamed of testing or racing on the big oval down the street.”

“We have a bunch of racers on this team,” said McFarland. “They have put in 11-12 hour days, seven days a week for the last few months and they are chomping at the bit to get back what we all love doing and that is competing against the best drivers in the world.”

Marc looks good for the rookie race if the track record follows DEI to a new team.

Dale Jr., Truex, Menard, Mcfarland..........all of those other superteams had better watch out, DEI is quietly building their own little stable of Young Stars to dominate in the not too far future!

I am going to have to agree with him! Love the "DEI is only one driver short of having one good driver!"

Hahaha.

I agree, he looked alright. But how about Burney Lamar! Damned good race for him.

Lets see how these DEI cars do at the downforce tracks next week.

I think you're all confused... McFarland is not a DEI driver.

McFarland drives for Jr's own Busch Series team which is called JR Motorsports.

He has his own facility and like 50 people that now work for his own company.

Sure they have some help from DEI, but it is a totally separate company.

The DEI drivers are Jr, Truex and Menard.  Menard is a good driver, he just got caught up in some trouble at Daytona which isn't very uncommon.

Please! saying Jr. Motorsports isn't DEI is like saying MB2 isn't Hendrick or saying Yates and Roush aren't in cohoots with each other.

Where do the motors come from? If they need sheetmetal, where is it coming from? If DEI needs tires for one of their cars, who is the first team they will ask?

I know on paper it is a separate team, but in reality, they are the same.  Jr. has built that team up from the ground up and moved through the ranks (late model, ARCA, and now Busch), but he has been able to move it along because of help from DEI and rightfully so. After all, it is a family company.

ALL NEW TEAM

The Jr. motorsports is a new piece rolled out to get the DEI - RCR  groups working together. Will it work? RCR motors with DEI everything else. Let's see if the experiment works.

Just was reading the article on NASCAR.com.. thought this was interesting...

"Fortunately for McFarland, he's guaranteed to be in good equipment. He'll be driving the same Chevrolet Martin Truex Jr. parked in Victory Lane last year."

Hmmmmm.
