Here's a new option that I like a lot and it can solve the problem of tiebreakers as well. Thought I'd post this on the board to see what everyone thinks before I go ahead with the plans.
1-2-3 Bonus
(Name can be changed)
With the 5 drivers we choose, predict the order in which they finish in the race. If your order is correct for all 5, you will receive 10 bonus points.
Example... this past race my picks were Dale Jr, Waltrip, Gordon, Johnson, and Biffle.
If I were to predict my picks in order.... I'd say Jr (1), Johnson (2), Gordon (3), Waltrip (4) Biffle (5).
The correct finish was Gordon (1) Johnson (2), Jr. (3), Waltrip, (4), Biffle (5).
I get 6 points for my picks of Johnson, Waltrip and Biffle.
Now since it's an optional bonus, that means there should be a chance of penalty points. If none of your picks are correct you will be deducted 5 points.
This option will be added to the weekly submission form, you can just enter the drivers numbers in and rank them 1-5.
So what does everyone think? This can be a great option in deciding tiebreakers. Post your comments or e-mail me.
I am game for just about anything, however I am not thrilled about this, you are predicting your own drivers not really competing against everyone else.
No, you will still be competing against everyone else. The format is still the same about picking your 5 drivers. Nothing has been taken away from how we've been playing it. There's just an extra option now of ranking your 5 drivers for extra points. Don't see what's wrong with that.
You may have misunderstood this new concept. This isn't the way that we'll be scoring everyone each race. You will still be picking your 5 drivers and they will get the points just as they have all along. The only change is that you have the OPTION of ranking the 5 drivers that you choose.
Remember they key word is option. You don't have to rank them each race if you don't want to. Half the league shot down the busch bonus option because they didn't watch the busch series, however what they failed to understand is that they did not have to participate in it if they didn't want to. The same goes for this concept as well. If you don't want to rank them, you don't have to.
I understand the rule, my point is everyone has the chance to pick from the entry list and go agains the other teams, but this once you select the drivers you rank your own drivers, nobody else would rank your drivers, you rank your own. I am up for adding the Busch Bonus and just about anything else. I am just not thrilled about ranking your own drivers.
I still fail to see your point. You are picking the same drivers to begin with. You are picking the drivers that you think will give you the most points in the race, with staying under the cap of course. You're still competing against other team members in that regard. All you are doing is putting those same drivers that you choose into an order of how they will finish among the 43 drivers competing in the race. Of course nobody else would rank your drivers, they would rank their own drivers if they choose to.
I've gone over and over your comments and fail to see what you are criticizing about. You are still competing against members with their own picks, all you are doing is having the option of getting up to 10 additional bonus points for trying to put the drivers that you choose in order.
I think this option would be fine. I do not think I would take part in this option. The possibility of losing 5 points seems to outweigh the plus of gaining 2 points for each of the five drivers you put in the correct position. I like it because I think a lot of the teams that participate would loose 5 points, all the better for me. LET"S GO RACING!!!!
ok, so that's 2 people that's not exactly for it. One is against it totally and the other is only for it because others would lose points, which wasn't where I was trying to go with it. And everyone else chooses not to say anything so far.
People don't seem to be subject to change too much in this league I've come to realize.
So..... if people aren't for this proposal as a way to ease tiebreakers... any other suggestions?
One person mentioned prediciting the amount of cautions per race, but I think that's just getting into too trivial matters. You can just as easily predict whose engine will blow up, or who will be the most laps down, or whatever. I just thought that ranking your drivers would allow a little more strategy but guess not.
I am not following The President's reasoning here. In my mind a tiebreaker only comes into effect if their is actually a tie in the first place. That is not how this proposed rule would work. There is already a provision in the rules that when the point total for the weekly race is tied between teams that the team higher in the standing gets the higher position and the points that go with the higher position. I have come out tied the last two weeks with teams higher in the standings than me, so I would certainly invite a tiebreaker, but this new rule is just a added chance to add or loose points, not a tiebreaker in my mind.
When I say it will ease tiebreaking, I mean that since it will give extra points or possibly take points away from someone, scores won't be exactly the same that much. Right now, if 2 people have the exact same picks, you know who is going to get the higher spot... the one higher in the standings.
However, with the new option, if those 2 members decide to rank their picks for some bonus points... well, the chance that they will rank all 5 drivers the same is a lot less than if they didn't rank them the same.
Example, you and 2 other members had these picks last week: Dale Jr, Waltrip, Johnson, Gordon, Elliott.
Before the race even took place, you knew where you would place in relationship to the two others.
Now... supposed to ranked your drivers in the order they finished. Say you ranked #8,#24,#15,#48,#98
Say Green Flag ranked #48,#24,#8,#15,#98
and say Zipperhead chose not to rank this week.
The correct finish was #24 (1),#48 (2),#8(3), #15(13) #98(18).
You would get 2 points for Bill Elliott only. You predicted he would come in 5th out of those 5 drivers.
Green Flag would get 6 points for #8, #15, and #98.
Zipperhead would get 0 points because he chose not to rank them.
See how that would ease tiebreakers? There would be less of them. That's what I'm trying to aim at...less ties.
Keep it simple. All Players submit their picks in order of predicted finish. Use this order of finish, if there is a tie between two teams. Don't use it if there is no tie. Don't make it a bonus. Nuff said.
okay, im about a day late to this topic, but i'll post either way and sound off...(im good at that)
i like this rule but i dont....let me explain....its a great idea but too much of a risk....someone mentioned it only being used as a tiebreaker...i like that............if all teams were REQUIRED to rank their individual drivers each race but the scorecard would only use your rankings if you were tied with another player at the end of a race.
under this format, there wouldnt be any bonus points but it would still solve the ties in a hurry (or the large majority of them anyway)
i dont think people are afraid of change ..... its just you have good league here and well, dont fix what isnt broke. all in all, its your league, you started it, you maintain it (very well) and its your baby, but my OPINION is that too much change in the course of the season is just clutter, much like Nascar this year.....rule changes are fine if justified, just better left in the off-season
SIDE NOTE, just wanted to said that i took great pride in winning Sonoma with the lowest payroll....that to me is what the salary cap is all about........curious, were there any other winners this year with the lowest payroll for that race?
I am for this option only to be used for Teams that have the same score in that week. This option wouldn't be used if a Teams doesn't tie with another Team that week. Like this past week I didn't tie with any other Team in scoring so this option woldn't affect me, but the next three Team had the same score so it would affect them to decide who is 2nd, 3rd, and 4th this week.
I like the idea from sea dogs. If we are just breaking ties then the order you submit your picks is the order of tie breaker. I do like my idea of picking how many cautions there are during the race because it's a part of racing.
I agree that any changes should be done in the off season but I'm all up for doing it this year on a trial basis.I'm easy
