I was brainstorming last night and came up with something new. However, after reading Matt's post, perhaps I should wait till the off season to implement it.... unless people want it right away, or maybe they don't at all....
A new bonus game within the game.....
Top 5 Challenge
Object is simple enough: Try to predict the top 5 finishers of each race.
Scoring would be as follows:
Successfully pick the winner: 5 points
Any of your picks end up within the top 5: 2 points each
If any of your picks end exactly where you pick them: 3 points each (You would get only 2 or 3 points for each pick, not both of them added up)
If by some miracle you predict the top 5 in order: 25 points
(the likelyhood that would happen is slim to none, but if some miracle it did happen, they should be rewarded generously)
Here's the penalty points:
Any of your picks end up outside the top 20: -1 point
Any of them end up outside the top 30: -2 points
Now this would be an optional game, you can play it some weeks if you like, and skip others. The points can be tinkered with if needed.
I think the average points per week should be maybe 11 or 13 extra points if you do good. Pick the winner, pick someone's spot exactly, and maybe get someone else within the top 5. 5+3+2=11 Which means it wouldn't be devestating enough to those that choose not to play. Plus it gives those a chance that the people playing might lose points some weeks. It's a little more thinking to do each week. I know some people just like to submit their picks and be done with it. But for those that like to put their predicting skills to work, this would be a great option. The bonus points would be added to your overall score for the week, and I can also keep a separate standings just for the top 5 challenge.
I am going to agree with Matt, you have a really good thing going that people are really enjoying, tinkering with it midseason might not be such a great idea.
If you add rules such as this, which I am not oppossed to I am afraid it might be too complicated for some. It depends on the direction you want the league to go. Do you want to keep it free and simple or get complicated and lose some players. I am in either way.
Well, as I said it can be added during the off season. Something to think about, or other options as well. Just so everyone knows, when the season is complete, I will be sending year end evaluations out to all members, rating different aspects of the league, future improvements, etc..
For now I suppose we will just use the rules as they've been all along.
just to respond to this idea, i like the ranking your own particular drivers over this one.......i mean, aren't we all trying to guess the top five anyway? granted, some do it better than others, but thats what fantasy racing is all about.
well, to exactly. If we were all trying to predict the top 5 we would be able to use all the best drivers we could. The cap disallows that. But I'll see what we do on the off season. I'd like to have some type of bonus point game.
