SONOMA, Calif. - Dale Earnhardt Jr. suffered moderate burns to his facial and lower extremities Sunday morning in an accident during American LeMans Series practice at Infineon Raceway.

Track spokesman John Cardinale said Earnhardt was transported to the University of California-Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, Infineon's designated hospital for burn treatment.

According to an American LeMans Series statement, Earnhardt was driving a Chevrolet Corvette C5-R in a 30-minute practice session when the accident occurred. The car spun and impacted a barrier in the Turn 8 section of the road-racing track, then caught fire. Earnhardt quickly exited the car on his own, and was then assisted by safety crews.

Wow, that sucks. I hope he's ok.

I think his sponsor should curb some of his other racing activities since he's one of the league's elite racers.

This accident may have team owners considering limiting non-nextel cup races for their drivers.  In my opinion in this particular race Dale Jr. was trying to improve his road racing skills by working with Boris Said in an effort to improve his Nextel Points in future road races on the Nextel Race Series, therefore his participation in this race made good sense, just a very unfortunate accident and fire where the filler line to the fuel cell broke on impact.  I hope Jr. will be at 100% for New Hampshire this weekend.

I personally think Jr. and Tony Stewart are the two drivers that are doing the most to keep fan interest at a high level for the Nextel Series.  Some of the other racers are really quite boring.

LET'S GO RACING!!!
