Some quick rudimentary math to see the scenarios for next week. All these scenarios assume that the driver wins the race and leads the most laps and none of his competitors earn bonus points.
For Jimmie Johnson to clinch the title: A finish of at least 12th or better even if Kenseth gets maximum points.
For Matt Kenseth to clinch the title: Win and lead most laps with a Johnson finish of 13th or lower.
For Kevin Harvick to clinch the title: Win and lead most laps with a Johnson finish of 21st or lower and a Kenseth finish of 4th or lower. This would result in an identical tie between Harvick and Johnson which Harvick would win due to the tiebreaker of most wins.
For Denny Hamlin to clinch the title: Win and lead most laps with a Johnson finish of 21st or lower, a Kenseth finish of 4th or lower, and a Harvick finish of 2nd or lower.
For Dale Earnhardt Jr. to clinch the title: Win and lead most laps with a Johnson finish of 30th or worse, a Kenseth finish of 10th or worse, a Harvick finish of 4th or worse, and a Hamlin finish of 3rd or worse.
The rest, including Jeff Gordo, are mathmatically eliminated.
