Since this will be the first year starting the season using owner points rather than driver points, the salaries are gonna be strange for some of the drivers who are switching rides around. We also won't be starting rookies off with a salary of 20k like we did in previous years since it screws things up with the owner points. Example... we have David Ragan, a rookie driving the #6 car, up in the A class with a salary of $42,000... that's where Mark Martin finished the year. Juan Pablo Montoya will be starting the season with a salary of $37,000. That's where Casey Mears finished in the #42 car.
While those drivers are probably way overpriced to start the season, we have some great bargains down in the cellar. Mark Martin inherits Joe Nemechek's owner points and will only be 15k.... how many people will be picking him in the first 5 races?? There are some great add-on drivers with only a 5k salary since they won't be in the top 35 in points like Dale Jarrett and Joe Nemechek. Of course if any owner points switch around before the Daytona 500 their salaries will have to be changed. After the 5th race of the season, all points will be switched to the current season.
