...Meanwhile over at the Atlanta Zoo

..baby Mei Lan (translated beautiful Atlanta) the baby panda, took its first steps out into its new enviroment. Mei Lan promptly nawed on a few peices of bamboo. (Pandas eat about 25-30 lbs. of bamboo a day when full-grown.) Mei Lan won't be able to "really eat" bamboo for about another 2-3 months though. After a bit of nawing the baby panda climbed up on a limb, balanced for a few seconds before falling off. Then wandered over by her mother for a well deserved nap. Whew..what a day! I plan on getting down there real soon for some pictures! Atlanta will have to give the cub up in about 2 years to motherland China. Mei Lan is the first panda born on U.S. soil. (er...maybe one in San Diego, I'd have to check.)

Ever been up to Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC?

It is one of the ten nicest in the country and right now, they have the Gorillas from Brookfield Zoo in Chicago.

Nope, been to Swope Park in K.C. Mi. and San Diego both in the top ten as well. Atlanta is pretty weak in comparison.
