Well a couple of years ago I brought up the idea of using the real points that the NASCAR drivers earned in the race. All points would then be added up to see where members place in the race. Just like it is now, those would then be converted to the points used in the standings. Some people were against this because a lot of other leagues used this format.
One format that I thought of during the offseason was this:
20th place would be worth 5 points.... it would then go up in 5 points increments from there... 19th place 10 points, 18th place 15 points.... etc. 1st would be worth 100 points although we might want to separate the top 3 positions a little more.
21st through 30 would be worth -5 points. 31st through 43rd would be worth -10 points.
That must have been before my time Lou, but i like that idea. And i feel this is a hands on type league, so going to the complete nascar system would have to be put to a league wide vote I think. With as many responses as possible contributing to the final decision of the council ofcourse.
So the scoring system is great when your contending and well within the Chase. But when you can't pick a top five driver and your points show that, THEN its a bad point system? I don't understand that logic at all.
The reason this scoring system was implemented was to set this league apart from all the other copycat leagues that are out there. And the whole discussion about rewarding teams who picked Top Five drivers.....where did that go? I have suffered under this point system as well, but I didn't complain, I have just tried to adjust the way I look at picking drivers. That is what makes this league challenging. Look at how many different winners this League has had. The point system must be working. There is no dominant team out there and really, isn't that what we want? Parity?
I am totally against changing the scoring at all and ESPECIALLY during the season...Thats where we ran into problems last year (whether or not to change policy during the season).
Lou wanted to hear from all teams who wish to voice their opinion, and I certainly have an opinion on this. I would love to hear from the teams who like the system the way it is as well as those who don't seem to like it. I would bet that there are more teams who like it the way it is currently being run.
Well I like it and I feel its the same for everybody, sure I got thoughts of how I might tweek it but that doesnt mean its going to happen. Or it dosent mean my way would be better, and I would hate to change and find out we didnt like it. It is tough to win in this League and I think it is the scoring that makes it that way. I see what Speedy is saying, that its tough to know you got all your drivers in the top 14 and one of them was in 2nd and one in 6th and you get a 26th place finish out of it. Ive found out that you better have 1st and 2nd in your picks if you want to win here. Daytona: the winner had 1st and 2nd place drivers California: the winner had 1st and 3rd place drivers and Vegas & Atlanta the winner had 1st and 2nd place drivers. Just getting all your drivers in +points like the old days wont do it any more. I wont say on here how my vote would go but Ive never been in favor of making a drastic change in the points system after the season has started.
I say leave it as it is. Like I said in the last thread, This aint NASCAR. Nascar changes rules to benefit the sponsors ,and as you can see I dont have one
