Jr. Motorsports news

Earnhardt Says JR Motorsports Could Move to Cup at Some Point: Dale Earnhardt Jr. indicated in the past that he didn't envision his JR Motorsports team going Nextel Cup racing. But now that he's unveiled a new shop for his Busch and Late Model teams, well, he could envision it "years down the road." "It was just so, so far down the road, it was ridiculous to even think about [Cup racing] or dream about it," Earnhardt Jr. said Tuesday during an open house of the new shop. "Being closer and closer to something like that being a reality, it's always a possibility." Kelley Earnhardt Elledge, who handles Earnhardt Jr.'s business affairs, was asked if Earnhardt Jr. could be the team's driver in Nextel Cup. Her answer: "No way." But Earnhardt Jr. says ... "With any company like ours, the sky's the limit," he said. "You just have to maximize your opportunities and make sure you're picking the right ones, working with the right people."(SceneDaily.com)(4-11-2007)

JR Motorsports is signing seven-time Supercross champion rider Jeremy McGrath to a developmental driver contract, with Monster Energy Drink as his primary sponsor, the SportsBusiness Journal reported. Like Supercross star Ricky Carmichael, who began driving for Ginn Racing last month, McGrath will run a series of late model races before potentially working his way into a Busch Series car. Monster Energy's sponsorship at JR Motorsports, which is owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr., is expected to follow McGrath's progression. This will be Monster's third four-wheel sponsorship in just a few weeks with Carmichael, McGrath and Champ Car driver Paul Tracy. (Scene Daily) (04-10-07)

Earnhardt Jr.s Retail Store, JR NATION, Opens to Public
JR Motorsports, Press Release

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (April 11, 2007) The first-ever retail store exclusive to Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his JR Motorsports brand officially opened its doors Tuesday afternoon as part of a company-wide grand opening at his teams new 66,000-square foot facility.

The store, fittingly called JR Nation, consists of more than 500 items of merchandise, including shirts, hats and collectables fashioned less like traditional track gear and more to Earnhardt Jr.s style. It is located at the entrance to JR Motorsports, easily accessible to guests visiting the shop.

Im very proud of this store, and I think the fans are going to really like what we have in it, Earnhardt Jr. said Tuesday at the grand opening. The shirts and hats are not flashy and over-the-top like you sometimes see at the race track. Its more subdued and cool. I had a lot of input in how I wanted this apparel to look, because I didnt want to sell anything I wouldnt wear myself.

To enhance the fan experience when visiting JR Motorsports, the retail store is connected to the Dale Jr. Fan Experience room, which chronicles the life and racing career of Earnhardt Jr. It contains exhibits featuring the U.S. Navy, primary sponsor of JRMs No. 88 car in the NASCAR Busch Series, and XM Radio, home to Earnhardt Jr.s weekly radio program, Dale Jr. Unrestricted. It also features a life-size Dale Jr. wax figure sculpted by Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, and a large viewing window into the race shop.

When fans visit this race shop, we want to give them an opportunity to get to know Dale Jr. in a new way, said Regina Smith, manager of JR Nation. Whether its through his product line in JR Nation or the exhibits in the Fan Experience, Dale Jr. was involved in essentially every phase of this process. There are things in the Fan Experience that you will not find anywhere else exclusive family pictures, memorabilia, and trophies that he has won.

JR Nation and the new JR Motorsports race shop is located at 349 Cayuga Dr. in Mooresville, N.C. Store hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

JR MotorsportsJR Motorsports, a Mooresville, N.C., based company solely-owned by NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., is a growing team in NASCAR Busch Series, USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series and late model stock car competition. Founded in 2002, the team is entering into its second season in the NASCAR Busch Series with the U.S. Navy and driver Shane Huffman. In addition to fielding the No. 88 Navy Accelerate Your Life Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS in the NASCAR Busch Series, JR Motorsports also fields the No. 88 Champion Chevrolet in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series with driver Richard Boswell. Scott Young and Curtis Truex Jr. are a part of the R&B Late Model Driver Development Program in the Nos. 71 and 73 R&B Chevrolets and compete at short track across the Southeast.
