WHO'S HOT: Fast pit stops are one reason Mark Martin (right) has been so successful this year in the Ginn Racing No. 01 Chevy. The No. 01 pit crew has won the Checkers/Rally award as the fastest pit crew in four of the eight races this year. Second fastest with two wins has been the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 11 crew of Denny Hamlin. Sebastien Bourdais has won 25 of his 62 career starts in Champ Car for an astounding winning percentage of .403. Here's how that percentage compares to the top winning percentages of some of the top NASCAR drivers in history: David Pearson, 105 of 574 (.183); Richard Petty, 200 of 1,184 (.169), Jeff Gordon, 76 of 481 (.158), Dale Earnhardt, 76 of 676 (.112).
WHO'S NOT: Easily, the season's biggest disappointment is Evernham Motorsports. Kasey Kahne led Nextel Cup with six victories last year, but he's 33rd in the points with only one top 10 after eight races. Elliott Sadler is a quiet 17th, and Scott Riggs is a dismal 37th. ... Still-struggling Ryan Newman has slipped to 26th in the points with three finishes outside the top 30 in the last four races. Newman hasn't scored a top 10 since early March at Las Vegas.
HE SAID IT: ''The things that bug me the most about him just running into you for no reason, just coming up.'' - Jeff Gordon on what he misses most about the late Earnhardt. Gordon tied Earnhardt on the career wins list at 76 with his victory at Phoenix last Saturday night.
