Dale Jr. on DEI dropping the Penalty Appeal

Dale Jr. - "DEI decided to drop their appeal of that penalty that we got for the wing in Darlington, which was a wise choice."
Josh Snider - "Why?"
Dale Jr. - "Well sometimes you can go get your appeal and actually get a worse penalty and there was a possibility, there were some discussions about forcing the eight car to have to qualify into every event...Taking away our top 35 exempt deal where we were automatically locked in the field, so we were worried that if we went to appeal and it didn't go, you know somebody said a cross word and upset somebody or something didn't go right it could become a worse penalty and decided to drop it and just take our lickings." I've never heard of NASCAR giving a more severe penalty from an appeal.

Would NASCAR really take away a top 35 qualifying exemption??  I really doubt that.

I do know that they say the Appeal Board can reduce the penalty, keep it the same or they can increase it. That is fact, but taking away the Top-35 spot would seem a bit harsh.

Then again, you would think the 100 point penalty was harsh.....just goes to show how serious a message they wanted to send out regarding tinkering with the Next-Gen car.
