Today was a huge turning point in the old DEI vs. HMS debate. That has now pretty much ended. Jr's decision to turn to a long time rival is going to cause some huge ripples in the NASCAR community.
This is when Jr. finds out who his real fans are. Like it or not, everyone is not jumping with him. A large majority of his fan base consist of his father's fans. This move will divide them because a number of them can never root for HMS, no matter what. I'm sure a lot of them will stick with the DEI drivers... Truex, Menard and whoever else comes aboard.
Jr. wanted to step out of his father's shadow and by god... he's done that today. If he went to RCR, I think mostly everyone would follow without a problem. Even Joe Gibbs wouldn't be too bad. But going to HMS, the true Jr. fans emerge.
Not Earnhardt fans, or DEI fans.....
Jr. fans.
Those who will support him even racing for the long hated enemy.
I personally will have to adopt a new view on that and it's going to be very difficult. I will have to try to tolerate Gordon and Johnson a little better. I still can't see myself rooting for them though.
Many fans will be doing a lot of soul searching for the rest of the year. We'll see who will be there at Daytona. It will be tough, but I'll be there. Like it or not, a new era begins......
lou and all jr. fans, jr. said he and gordon have never been rivals and in fact gordon and hendrick has helped him alot in the last 6 years and that dale sr. and jeff had a few business arrangements when sr. was with us! he also said he loved to beat #24 because beating him was like jeff beating #3,which means that is hard to do! so get over it I DID !they will all make each other better! and everyone could use that even jr. . the only rival there is , is jr. fans & gordo fans! accept #24 and what he can bring to the table ,cause i've accepted #8 and what he can do! hendrick fan! troy wiggins
