Hendrick Motorsports Confirms Dale Jr. Will Have New Sponsor in 2008: Hendrick Motorsports announced that long-term contractual commitments to existing sponsors will preclude Budweiser from continuing as primary sponsor of the car driven by Dale Earnhardt Jr. when he joins the organization next season. "We have agreements in place with sponsors for the 2008 Sprint Cup season, which prevent us from having a relationship with Budweiser," said team owner Rick Hendrick. "Honoring our commitments is important to us. The trade-off is missing an opportunity to bring Budweiser, a marquee brand synonymous with NASCAR and its fans, into the fold." On June 13, Earnhardt Jr. signed on to race for Hendrick Motorsports beginning in 2008, but primary sponsorship of his team remains undecided. No timetable has been established for an announcement. "Budweiser has sponsored Dale Jr. for nearly a decade, and we wish him the very best," said Tony Ponturo, vice president of global media and sports marketing for Anheuser-Busch Inc. "Budweiser will remain an active sponsor of NASCAR, and we look forward to building upon the legacy of the iconic Budweiser red car in 2008 and beyond." "To climb into that red Budweiser car each weekend has always been a privilege," Earnhardt Jr. said. "Although Budweiser and I will be unable to continue our partnership beyond this season, I remain committed to driving for Bud the rest of this year, and will continue to make it my beer of choice. I'm a race car driver. All I can do is drive as hard as I can for my fans and sponsorship partners, and give my best effort each weekend."(Hendrick Motorsports PR)(7-13-2007)
Well, its too bad to see Budweiser part ways with Dale Jr. The two were a good pairing ever since Jr. started racing in the big series. However, I guess the good thing is that now he will have different kinds of exposure. His main sponsor pretty much mostly limited him to bars and alcoholic drinks. I'm pretty sure a Pepsi brand will be sponsoring him next year... definitely more room for exposure there. Much like NASCAR went through a big change when they switched from Winston to Nextel, looks like the same thing could happen here.
Glad to hear it! I always thought Budweiser did a great job at supporting Jr. but personally I couldn't stand to see it on the car. At least both sides parted amicably and Jr. will still be in their commercials just not on his car.
Can't wait to see the new sponser! (hopefully not Pepsi, I am a Coke man)
Earnhardt's association with the brewery will be completely severed after this season. A personal services agreement with Anheuser-Busch that was scheduled to run through 2008 will also end after this year. That means no more Budweiser commercials featuring a driver whose connection with the beer company served as a cornerstone of his rock-and-roll identity.
Guess Not......, Kyle (at DEI) and Kahne are the frontrunners to have Bud on their car next year.
In a report dated June 19th, Captain Thunder Racing.com reported that we had discovered material information regarding the 2008 sponsorship forDale Earnhardt Jr. and the #5 Hendricks Motor sports Chevrolet. Our report listed Mountain Dew and Monster Energy as the leading candidates to take over the most sought after sponsorship in motorsports. Well, get ready to Do The Dew race fans.
The days of seeing the Mountain Dew car run up front with Darrell Waltrip behind the wheel may be long gone, but the days of seeing Dale Earnhardt Jr. running up front in the Dew car may be just around the corner.
Earlier this morning, sources told Captain Thunder Racing.com that Hendrick Motorsports and Pepsi (the parent company of Mountain Dew NYSE symbol PEP) are organizing an announcement next week when the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series heads to the most famous race track in the world, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The Nextel Cup Series is off for two weeks as drivers and crews take their last vacation break of the season, but executives at Hendrick Motorsports will be hard at work wrapping up the largest NASCAR sponsorship of all time. Sources said Hendrick and Pepsi were still finalizing some of the details of the deal, but were focused on making a big presentation at Indy with the entire motorsports world watching.
The total investment by Mountain Dew is expected to be in the neighborhood of $30 million per year, and sources say they are also OK with Earnhardt Jr. running a limited Busch Series schedule, something Budweiser was not comfortable with.
AMP Energy Drink (also owned by Pepsi and an offshoot of Mountain Dew) is also expected to play a sponsorship role.
The deal is to coincide with Earnhardt Jr.&! rsquo;s multi year contract with Hendrick, which runs through the 2012 season.
The rumors of Earnhardt Jr. switching numbers with Casey Mears appear to be false. There was some speculation that Hendrick would ask Mears to give up his #25 in return for the #5, but sources told Captain Thunder Racing.com that Earnhardt Jr. would indeed be in the #5.
Captain Thunder Racing.com did reach out to the Hendrick Motorsports PR department for comment, but were told by longtime Hendrick PR Director Jesse Essex that they are choosing to hold all announcements until the deal is completed and signed, and they would not comment on the reports validity. Still, we stand by our sources and our information. John Captain Thunder Nevins for Captain Thunder Racing.com ___________________________________________________________
Three to Six Weeks Until Earnhart, Jr. Sponsorship Announcment? A well-placed source at Hendrick Motorsports said it will be three to six more weeks before the 2008 sponsorship package for Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will be announced. There are a lot of details to deal with, the source said. Earnhardt is leaving details of the sponsor agreement to his sister and business manager, Kelley Earnhardt Elledge, and his new boss. Obviously there's a rush behind the scenes with Kelley and Rick and all them guys, Earnhardt said. They're doing all those things that they've got to do for sponsors and numbers and all that but me as the driver, I can go over there all season and do everything I need to do to get ready for the year. I'm not really looking in that direction quite yet. Still got things to do here. I've got my integrity and my team's integrity on the line to be able to run hard all year long and finish well."(SPEEDtv.com)(8-4-2007)
In addition, it is starting to make sense why Jr. chose Hendrick over the other teams (besides the performance issues). Ginn was in financial trouble, and Gibbs was more than likely committed to going to Toyota.
