Kyle Busch has finally decided where he will race next season, agreeing to a deal to drive the #18 Interstate Batteries machine for Joe Gibbs Racing in 2008 and beyond. Busch will replace J.J. Yeley, who will move to Wood Brothers/JTG Racing next season to steer the #21 Ford. Busch made his decision after recently narrowing the field to three teams; Gibbs, Dale Earnhardt, Inc., and Evernham Motorsports. An official announcement is expected within the next 2-3 weeks. In addition, JGR will jump from Chevrolet to the Toyota camp beginning in 2008, joining Michael Waltrip Racing, Bill Davis Racing and Team Red Bull on the list of teams running Toyota Camrys. Neither Busch nor JGR have made any official comment on the move, but Gibbs officials have already informed Hall of Fame Racing that they will not continue to provide the team with engines next season, prompting Hall Of Fame to contact Richard Childress Racing about a similar engine-supply deal for 2008.(Motorsports Soapbox)(8-6-2007)
Ok.... I can see Gibbs picking up Kyle Busch.... as much as I find the shrub annyoying as hell, he's a heck of a better driver than Yeley. But why the switch to Toyota??? I don't get it..... They have success with Chevy. Stewart won the championship 2 years ago and is doing good this season. Denny Hamlin has been a huge breakout driver, and Kyle Busch has proven himself in a Chevy.
Why mess with a good thing and switch to Toyota? Yes, Toyota has stepped it up a little bit this year compared to the struggles early on, but they are nowhere on the level that Chevy is.
I wonder what Stewart's take is on all of this? I don't think he really cares for Kyle Busch and I'm sure he does not want to switch to Toyota. He still has two more years on his contract. Anyone taking bets that he'll re-sign after that? Go to DEI Tony!
Has to be a money deal with Toyota and Gibbs. They can not be very happy with the teams they have this year. Waltrip might just get dumped in the dust. Which except for DJ I could care less.
personally im thinking toyotas may be better cars than we give them credit for. look what theyve been doing in busch this year . with a few quality drivers their program should take off and of course its about the money , am sure chevy couldnt or more importantly wouldnt get off more money and toyota has plenty to burn . have heard for years that chevy plays no favorites and each team gets roughly same incentives and such , one of few things i respect about their program . am a ford man but know for fact roush gets way more support from them than yates ever did....simple commerce in america
those two deserve each other....battle of the one who can whine the most!!!
