8:00pm was the time they qualified this week. I mentioned it in the email I sent earlier in the week.

Usually its 10:00pm the night before, but since they qualified on Thursday this week, I gave everyone as much time as possible before they started qualifying.

I agree. The different deadline caught me off guard as well. I thought I had til 10:00, as I didnt read my email either. Whats the hurry in getting them picked before qualifying? In case you pick someone who doesnt make the race? Doesnt make sense since you throw out the low score anyway.....til next week!!!

Because you receive 5 extra points for picking the polesitter.

i know the rule....but I almost found myself in the same boat with making picks.

I understand that it was the qualifying predicament that started all this but we all should pay more attention the emails that Lou sends out.....just because we dont jump online, doesn't mean we should take for granted when the deadline is.

Lou, if this happens in the future, perhaps a week ahead notice would help out ....just reminding everyone that next week would have an earlier deadline.

Well if I knew a week in advance I would.... I get my information from NASCAR.com who lists the whole schedule for the week which is posted early in the week on Monday.  Best thing I can say is that you really shouldn't wait until the last minute to make your picks if you can help it.

Some of us have lives to live. Cant spend all day looking at the website or waiting for emails. There were 5 people who missed their picks this week. If someone posts their picks late, they should only be penalized for the whopping 5 points you get for the pole sitter, not disqualifying them for the entire weekend. Too many rules ruin the fun everyone wants to have. Besides, how do we know everyone posted on time? Maybe a few buddies of the Pres or the Pres himself posted late and they were accepted. who knows??? something so easy should not be made so difficult.

For someone who just joined the league I kind of resent what you are implying there.
We have rules in the league and we all abide by them. Sorry.... the Prez's picks and his "buddies" were all in on time.

Well guys, "true" fans keep up with whats happening on the circuit. As a council member I must say its been this way all year. Whats the problem? Its your own faults. maybe as one said "I have a life to live" should know their own limitations. If this league is cutting into your lifes and you don't have 5 minutes to check NASCAR.com well the answer is simple.
I'm an EMS supervisor, a husband and grandfather as well. Not to mention work most weekends on side jobs (like today) to try to make our future a little brighter. If your shedule is worst than that I sympathy, for you. I play cause I love this sport. Get over it and pay attention. Jeez.

  Speedy
PS. Lou sends emails for a reason..read them. There just might be a reason he sent them.

Resent is usually a form of guilt, but i'll leave that to the rest of the league members to determine. you can lower your blood pressure, i am just saying that things need to be simple and quit trying to make it more difficult....kinda like the new scoring discussion for the truck series. 3 different series are run here (not including Iroc) and all are scored differently.
Simplification=Success Difficulty=Downfall I know I am an outsider, and do expect this treatment, but its what I expect. Have a great day!

Dude, its all good. The reason for it is so anyone with computer acess doesn't get an "unfair" advantage checking practice speeds. Not that will help but it could. This issue was voted on during the last off-season. Not all council memebers voted for this just so you know. We try our best to give everyone an equal shot. Sorry it snuck up on you this time. Again, Lou trys to give everyone a heads up when early qing happens.

whoa whoa, slow down guys.

4tmr, the rules have been set even before this year with everyone's picks being due before qualifying....there is no way that is going to change now. (no matter if twenty teams missed their picks or one team)

As Dan said, this is an optional league, we participate because we like too and we have the time to do so, this is one of the reasons I dont play in the Busch League. We all make different choices.

The leagues are different to create each one's own identity. That is the philiosophy at Lucky Dog Racing.

The resentment at foul play is justified. A comment that states 'pres and his buddies' was unjustified in my opinion. Parameters are set to make sure no one puts in late picks. Its funny it is always a new member that screams foul play before understanding the rules.

I don't mean to degrade you in any way whatsoever but this is a great league that attracts more and more members all the time just through word of mouth alone and all the members that have been here understand the rules accept how the league is set up and run daily.

I'm not sure what you mean by guilt.... What am I exactly supposed to feel guilty about?
League Rule.... The deadline is always before qualifying. Usually it is the night before qualifying. This week I gave people a little extra time... right up to qualifying. I could have easily made it Wednesday night, but because of the earlier deadline I gave people extra time.

It is simple.... picks are due before the deadline. I don't know how more simple it is than that.

During the off-season I approached the council about having some kind of late rule where a number of points would be docked to a player's picks if they were received after the deadline. They decided that they liked the current rule and did not want to change it.
Maybe it's something we can visit again during the offseason, I don't know.

I sent out the letter Monday night like I usually do advising everyone of the earlier deadline and I told people that picks will not be accepted after the start of qualifying. Yes.... 5 people may have missed it, but 47 did not. I'm sorry that you were one of the 5 people, but.. it happens from time to time.

Nobody is kicked out for speaking up, we even have a members rights policy that prevents that. I invite these "4 members" who emailed you to contact me. They say they wish more members spoke up, but they don't seem to do a very good job themselves.

I have no problem of someone speaking their mind and maybe offerins some kind of rule change that we should look at during the off-season, but what I do not appreciate is someone saying that I treat myself and certain others differently in the league. Everyone runs under the same rules... Myself, the Vice-President, even someone who just joined the league. I can provide you the email of any member's picks if you feel someone may have submitted late. However, the picks were posted on the site not 5 minutes after the deadline anyway.

I dont sit in front of my computer. I have a 40 hour week job. 4 kidds 4 grand daughters . every night I check out The lucky dog website so I dont miss anything. Alls I got to say is make time . And i dont think lou has to babysit everybody and seend emails to tell you to submit your picks . And also I think if you miss your picks you should get NO points, Its just like not showing up for the race. and always good job LOU!!!!! Im wondering if im one of Lous buddies? And I didnt send JGRTMR any email just to let you know. I speak my mind , almost got booted off Truckseries for speaking my mind. biggrin.gif

Most people have a lot on their plate, myself included.  In addition to my job, my responsiblities at home and whatever personal life I have left, I have a lot of updating I do to the leagues each week. It takes a lot to run this site. Most people recognize that and I thank them for it. I try to make it fair and fun for everyone, but seem people just don't understand for some reason.

wow ! didnt mean to strike a nerve in everyone by starting this rant . my only complaint was picks are usually due in by 10 pm , mentally you get used to that and dont think to check . if the deadline was 8pm thursday week in and week out it would always be before qualifying . that is what im asking . simplicity does go along way . i work 12 hour shifts every day and the *******s i work for cut off our internet access at work . i rarely have time for dinner much less playing on the computer. in no way do i think anyone has an advantage or think a chosen few are allowed to turn in picks late . sorry to have rattled so many cages lou i have no idea how you find time to do any of this but keep doing what you do

LOL no problem Leon, no worries here. Maybe it might be easier if you think to yourself that the deadline is 8:00pm every night, that way you know you won't miss them even if you are just a few minutes late.  Just because the deadline for the league is one time, doesn't mean you can't set one for yourself that is a little earlier.
