Need feedback on a rule change for next year

Next year you will be penalized for drivers not being able to make the field even if they are on the race entry list. It will be 5 points deducted if they are out of provisionals and are unable to make the field. However, it will be 10 points deducted if they do not appear on the race entry list at all.

My question is, in the case of qualifying being canceled due to rain, should the points deducted be waived, except for those drivers that don't appear on the list? They will still be deducted 10 points.  Or should the 5 point deduction be the same regardless if qualifying is rained out or not?

Please voice your opinion, it will help determine the outcome. Thanks!

I have taken advantage of that rule all yr but You should be penalized if a racer does not make the field, with the exception of rainouts...

i jumped on the bandwagon of getting around that rule as well.......i mean, do what you can to get ahead as long as it falls in line with the wording right?....it worked for me too, as soon as i started doing it, my finishes improved.

but with that being said, i think you should be penalized next year for a driver not making the field...........now, we know we cant control nature, so it shouldnt be as much as if the driver isnt at all on the race entry list.

ok, so my view is your suggestion is just about right........maybe the driver who isnt even scheduled to attempt qualifying should get -15 points.....after all, you should be aware that the driver you are picking is or isnt on the entry list............rained out drivers who would have attempted (Like Truex this year at a couple of tracks) otherwise if not for rain should still be penalized -5 points .........i mean, that was a break for those of us that used it, but it shouldnt have been there........if your driver isnt in the race, it shouldnt be a free pass..

the rules are five drivers under the cap not four and a guy who isnt really racing.

Okay if its due to weather or a beer vendors strike then we shouldn't be slapped with a penatly. Otherwise, if he doesn't quailify then a penatly is fine by me.

Well I decided to make the penalty of having a driver who doesn't appear on the list 10 points, because starting next year, 5 points will be the most that you can lose on a driver in a race. DNF's will not count an extra 5 points like they do this year. That's why I think 10 points should be a big enough penalty.

so what will be the deduction for the driver who would have attempted to qualify but rain canceled his aspirations...........Truex could be in this situation a few times next year as well.

and on a side note, Nascar has 'rain tires'. its my understanding they are only for the road courses but wasnt a road course rained out this year? why?

Well there will be no deduction for a driver that attempted to qualify but was canceled by raib. He'll receive 0 points like he does now. But every other race, he be deducted 5 points if he can't make the field after he qualifies.

On the other note, it's up to Nascar whether they want to bring the rain tires with them to a road course. So far, rain tires have not been used in a race. They elected not to at Watkins Glen. Qualifying was rained out, but the actual race went though as planned.
