They had a bunch of previous Daytona 500 winners on there.
Marvin Paunch Buddy Baker Pete Hamilton Cale Yarborough and of course Darrell Waltrip
two of the best stories on they told were:
Buddy Baker - after winning the 500 in 1980, went to the hotel to go to sleep (not that much partying back then), couldn't go to sleep, so he packs up and hauls tail all the way back to Carolina to sleep in his own bed. Heading through Georgia at 1 AM, he comes around a bend and flys up on Highway Patrol......knows hes busted so he just pulls right on over... The officer was so shocked that it was Buddy and said: "Man, you have the worst luck all the time and guess what? This is one of them" and proceeded to write him a ticket only a few hours after winning the biggest race of his life.
Cale Yarborough - during his qualifying run for the 1983 500 on the second pass, air gets under his car and lifts it and the ol' Hardees #28 goes airbourne flipping and tumbling.....of course wrecking the car for the weekend. He didn't have a backup car then, but there was a SHOW car at the Hardee's a few miles down the road. Cale and his team go down there and retrieve that car and proceed to win the 500 with the SHOW car for the fourth time of his career.
I liked when Cale said, that 2nd lap was going to be about a 204 MPH lap but the car just wouldn't stay on the track. Those guys were fearless back then driving cars that were not even close to how safe the cars are today.
