Tire issues at Indy

It's a shame that the tires are the story at Indy. Cars are running 10 laps before they blow out. Unbelieveable....

Yeah, if it wasn't for the tires -- it's not that bad of a race. Man, I cann't believe what just happened to Matt Kenseth Car dang.

terrible race!

I was outside most of the day entertaining guests at my daughters 2nd birthday, but from what I caught of the race, it totally blew! (pun intended)

HOLY CRAP!

I actually got a 6th place showing? I knew I did decent with my top three guys, but I figured Montoya and Mears cost me a Top Ten. Although my teammate edged me out of a Top Five, we still were able to get the most Team points this week since none of us finished at the bottom.

Thanks Karen! I picked those drivers in Memory of you, and they allowed me a rare Top Ten showing!

It had become well known that the tires were only going to last approximately 10-12 laps at the most during the race. Instead of NASCAR throwing competition cautions every 10-12 laps all day why not let the teams decide when they wanted to pit and let the drivers talent on saving tires be the dictator of how long of a run could be made before needing to pit? I think there were a bunch of things that could have been handled differently than the way it was.
I may have missed it somewhere during the race and if so then my appologies for bringing it up but why didn't any crew chief calculate how far his car would run on gas for the 12-13 laps they would run before tire wear forced their hand in the pits and just run that much instead of a full tank? I think it would have lightened the load on the car and they just might have been a little faster on the short run. They definately didn't need a full tank for sure!
Could it have been handled differently? Most definately but NASCAR micromanaged the event with the same ole effort that has gotten them to the status they sit at today. Teams will adapt if NASCAR will just let them.

you are correct in that the teams could have adapted, but more than likely, twenty or so teams would have gambled and lost.

it was a terrible race to view, but I have to always side with safety. although, I would not have minded watching all the teams go to the Pocono tires, that would have been interesting!
