How about that for someone who hasnt run a road course with the big boys yet???? It seemed he was a lock to win that thing from the moment he took that pit stop on lap 9.
Thumbs down to the polesitter who wanted to limp around the track and spread oil just so he could finish two spots higher. (it was funny watching him come on pit lane at the beginning though)
Thumbs up to Harvick for his third straight 2nd place showing....too bad he doesnt know he belongs in the minors and stop taking up a good spot at RCR.
Yeah, congrats to our Jersey boy Truex! It's great that he wins in his first Busch road course race and becomes the first driver to win a NASCAR points race out of the country. So now Truex has won on a superspeedway, a short track and a road course. He's showing he's a very versitile driver. DEI should start him in Watkins Glen, see how he does. Heck, the way Ron Fellows ran in Mexico, they would be better off doing that.
One wonders if NASCAR would ever want to put a cup race in Mexico. Frankly, I'd rather keep it all in the states. Maybe have an exhibition race there like they did in Japan a few years ago.
One report I read said they wouldnt want to do a cup race in Mexico, but another one said they would like to do it and sacrifice the second Pocono race to do so. Can't say I like that idea. I'm sure someday Pocono's second date will get cut, but hopefully that's after they can ever build the track in New York.
Truex did do great but he was racing road course guys who arent familar with the cars and Busch guys who primarly dont run road courses or even contend with Truex himself on a regular basis..............he isnt ready to run a road course on the Cup level yet.....Harvick, Jr., Stewart, Gordon, Gordon, Rusty, Mark, Johnson, plus Ringers would be too much for him. not to mention more powerful cars.
i've heard all along that Mexico will be a Cup race in about five years.....it has to be established first, whether we like it or not, NASCAR wants to compete with F1 on a global basis.
im for Pocono keeping two dates as long as NASCAR lets tracks have more than one.........Pocono beats N. Hampshire, California, and Vegas anyday. (of course, im one that believes that every track and all types should be represented equally and each venue gets only one race per year.) how much more special would Daytona, Bristol, or Rockingham be then?
