Last year I came up with a concept for the league that would would add additional bonus points. You would guess the winner of the Busch Series race run that weekend and it would give you points depending where that driver finished. It didn't go over all that well because there was quite a few people who didn't follow the Busch series, only watched NASCAR's premier series.
However, we might be able to bring that concept to the Busch series where you would try and guess the winner of the Truck series race if it is run that weekend. If you a regular watcher of the Busch Series, most likely you watch the truck series too, or at least loosely keep tabs on it. So like the Busch Bonus concept, I bring you the Truck bonus.
The truck series schedule is lighter than Cup and Busch, so it won't be in effect every week obviously, but for those weekends that it is run with the Busch Series, you'll try and guess the winner.
If your pick comes in 1st place, you'll get 25 bonus points.
2nd-5th place: 20 points
Top 10: 15 points
Top 15: 10 points
Top 20: 5 points.
No points for anything below 20.
This concept would be good for a couple reasons. 1.. It would help break up ties. Ties for exact picks would go to the team higher in the standings, but this would create less of them.
And 2... It's something that would bring all 3 of NASCAR's top series into our league. No, there will never be truck series league, so this will be as close as we'll get.
I'd like to hear from those members in our Busch Series league and see what they say. If most people agree with it, we'll put in effect for the first weekend that both series are run together which actually won't be until the end of April in Talladega. I'll make up a little schedule to let everyone know which dates we can use this.
I went through the schedule for both the Busch and Truck Series. There would be a total of 17, possibly 18 times we could use it.
However, there are a couple of dates that knd of conflict. On May 15, the Truck Series is run on Sunday Afternoon. The Busch series is run 2 days before, on Friday night.
In July 2, the truck race is run on Saturday, while the busch is run on Friday night.
July 2nd we could probably wait until the truck race is finished before the Busch results are done, but we might want to skip the May 15th one, or wait those 2 days.
sounds good to me....i say even use it on the conflicting dates as well.
are there any weekends where the Busch and Craftsmen Trucks are at different venues? not a problem in my book, if anything adds to flair of picking a winner then.
Yes there are a few dates where they are at different venues. For example on July 23, Truck is at Memphis while Busch is at Pikes Peak. They run the same day that weekend.
The only date that would be a problem would be the May date. I don't know if people want to wait 2 days for the scores to be finalized, but if it's not a big deal, we can.
