#8-#42 Owner Points Swap: Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, whose largely sponsorless #8 Chevy was 14th in 2008 owner points, has swapped positions with new teammate #42-Juan Montoya, who was 25th last year while driving for Chip Ganassi Racing. The assumption is that if the #8 was shut down within the first five races, Montoya would have a nine-position advantage if qualifying was rained out. In conjunction with the point swaps, Chip Ganassi now owns the #8 and Teresa Earnhardt took ownership of the #42 from Ganassi's father, Floyd.
This really irks me..... What a difference a year makes. Last year Dale Jr. was trying to buy this from Teresa because he wanted to keep the8 since it had so much history in the earnhardt family. She wouldn't budge. But oh, now she has no problem giving up the 8 for the 42. WTF? I bet Jr. isn't too happy about this and I can only imagine what Dale Sr. thinks.
Just another lame attempt to rub it in Jr's face...that woman is just plain evil...

I think this actually opens it up for Dale to get his hands on it a little easier now if he wanted to have it in the future. He seems to be really respected in the garage and I'm sure Chip would be easier to negoitate with than having to deal with Teresa again.
But the point I don't like about it is that team members shouldn't be able to swap points like that just on a whim. I'm one of those guys who think an aging driver shouldn't be able to 'buy/rent' a ride from a go or go-homer who managed to make the field either. I never have liked the Top 35 rule. Race and Run hard. Earn your way in or watch from the sidelines. This isn't stick and ball sports that have franchises (who actually have to pay billions to get a franchise), so you can't compare the two in my opinion.
