TALLADEGA, Ala. -- It started with a little push by Dale Earnhardt Jr., really nothing more than a love tap at 190 mph to the rear bumper of Mike Wallace's car.
But that high-speed shove -- called bump drafting -- triggered a 25-car accident that wiped out over half the field at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday. It was the second largest accident in Talladega history, behind a 27-car wreck in 2003.
the blatant disregard competitors gave to NASCAR's pre-race suggestion against bump drafting.
<<<<Bottom line is only Jrs bump drafting cause a wrecked when NASCAR clearly said not too>>>>
But driver Sterling Marlin said the bump drafting was inexcusable.
"He (Earnhardt) ought to know better than that, we all knew what was going to happen," Marlin said. "It's ridiculous that professional drivers can't run three deep without hitting each other."
<<<Here I have a problem, he ought to know better? His dad won half of his races by wrecking the guy in front him>>>>
By the way when in the HISTORY of NASCAR has a driver admitted that a wreck was his fault?
its funny, you seem to leave out two other quotes from your own article submission....
"Bump drafting is just part of this kind of racing," Kasey Kahne said as his crew worked to repair his car. "I was getting bumped here and there and I bumped here and there. You can ask them not to do it, but they're going to. That's how you get to the front."
"I got behind Mike, I was kind of pushing him, waiting to get out of trioval and had my bumper up there to ease it to him," Earnhardt said. "I couldn't see it, but a silver gray car (Johnson) came up track into him and Wallace was trying to lift. I tried to lift but there was nothing I could do to help him.
Bump-drafting is part of plate-racing......its not going away. and please don't try to sell to me that Earnhardt is the only one doing it. all 43 drivers bump-draft at one point or another in the race.
as for drivers taking blame when they cause a wreck..........they do it all the time! Earnhardt did (atlanta) when we took out Vickers and Labonte a few weeks back. Hamilton Jr.(texas?) did when he caused it a few weeks back. Edwards did when he caused one a couple of weeks ago. Nemechek did when he caused it on Saturday. and thats just the ones i can think of right off the top of my head.
Don't forget that Jimmie also took the blame for putting Burton out of the race(I think it was phoenix) and made sure he talked to Jeff after the race was over.
