Chip Ganassi is supposedly working on a deal at the moment that would not only keep open wheel racing's biggest name away from the clutches of NASCAR, it would likely advance her ascention in Indy cars. Ganassi is considering signing Danica Patrick for a third car on the Target team for 2010, joining Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti. Ganassi didn't return phone calls Wednesday but his veteran lieutenant acknowledged adding a car for Patrick could be possible. "We've always entertained having a third driver if we could get the comparable funding that Target provides us," said Mike Hull, managing director of Target/Ganassi. "If Danica has something and wants to talk to us, that would be great because I think she's ready to take that next step. But I can tell you we haven't spoken to her." Patrick's three-year contract with Andretti-Green Racing, which was sponsored by Motorola to the tune of $21 million, expires at the end of this season. And, if she wanted to test the waters in NASCAR down the road, Ganassi could slide her right into one of his seats on the team he shares with Teresa Earnhardt.
Here's food for thought..... if Danica Patrick wanted to step into a NASCAR ride, can you see her in the return of the #8 car?
the last comment really doesn't deserve a comment yet.
as far as her open wheel career...........how is it she keeps getting these rides? I thought going to Andretti-Green was going to propel her........and she's gotten like what? one Top Five in a field of 33?
Personally I think it would be a career killer for Danica if she decided to switch to NASCAR. She shines in Indycar because there's not too many household names in the motor racing sport that pales in comparison to NASCAR. I'm not talking about talent, I'm talking about popularity. Really, how many people do you see wearing Indycar t-shirts (other then at an Indycar race) or have Indycar stuff plastered all over their cars? Not too much....
But for those millions of people who don't know that much about Indycar or like it on a casual basis? How many drivers in the sport can they name? Danica Patrick probably comes to most people's minds... Maybe Helio Castroneves from his stint on Dancing with the Stars.
Now you take Danica out of Indycar and throw her in NASCAR where she has to compete against the big names of Dale Jr., Jeff Gordon, Jimmie johnson, Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne... These are big names that everyone recognizes with the sport. Can you really think that Danica can join their ranks?
I'm afraid it would be big news during the first year or 2 but she would get lost in the shuffle quickly after that. She would suffer the same fate of some of the other open wheeled drivers who switched to NASCAR... Juan Pablo Montoya, Sam Hornish Jr.... or even worse, Dario Franchitti. They usually run mid pack at best and don't get too much air time. I think the same would happen to Danica eventually.
Not saying she shouldn't give NASCAR a try someday but she better have a backup plan if it blows up in her face.
I think that you maybe actually be surprised how many IRL Fans their are out there.
About Danica joining NASCAR start her out in the Trucks see if she can handle it with those guys -- truely she really cannt do any worse then some of the drivers that are already in NASCAR (LoL)
I am with Wendal on this one. Before people start degrading any drivers record maybe they should check out there current one. I hear he is getting some bad press from his fans lately!
There are tons of IRL fans..............in Canada! And Wendal, you're considered one of them...you are close enough, LOL.
I knew the Jr. comments would come up, but that proves my point more, you bash him and yet you praise Danica for not living up to standards just because she's cute? Not very good logic there.
Yes, I watch IRL when I can, it is fun to watch. unfortunately I don't tend to follow the schedule too much so I miss races, but most of them are on the same days as the NASCAR ones anyway.
