All Star race rules change

Call it the Geoff rule. In order to race in the All-Star race,(what happened to the Winston?) you have to have won the all star race in the past 10 years.( past champions) This rule was designed to keep drivers past their prime off the track. This effectively takes Bodine out of the race. Its said he would have entered. This also effects Bill Elliott but he wasn't expected to enter. Sorry Geoff.

Really, I haven't heard about that rule change. That's good, I was sick of seeing Bodine in the all star race anyway.

Yes sir I agree. That blurb came out of the AJC today. AJC is on top of racing news even better than nascar.com most the time.

I personally don't like this change as I have always been a Geoffrey Bodine fan since I saw him race modifieds at upstate New York paved tracks like Oswego Speedway, Shangra La, Albany Saratoga, Spencer, Lancaster, Evans Mills and Spencer. Although his biggest claim to fame was dating Tanya Tucker I still enjoyed watching Geoffrey race. He certainly has always had an attitude, even fighting with his younger brothers.

Well Bodine might have been good back in his day, but the All Star race is about TODAY's all stars. If Bodine was still racing on a regular basis, then sure, he could participate in the all star race. However, he only participates in what... only 2-3 races per year? And he usually ends up last when he does.

With Bodine participating in the all star race every year, it takes something away from having the biggest stars in the race. It can even create a dangerous situation since he can't compete with the other drivers, it's just a slow car for them to try and get around.

My friend and I used  to have a standing yearly pool. Who would wreck first a Bodine or a Wallace. I had the Bodine's and probably won 6 out of every 10 races. It usually didn't take long for the results to come in either. Both families drivers sucked almost equally! Good bye and good riddance too Geoff. Rusty thankly not far behind.

To Speed Demon

From your comments about Geoffrey and Rusty it is obvious that you don't have a clue about there driving abilities and accomplishments. I checked out your team page and see you are from Atlanta, a tarheel and Hurricanes fan, but the real clincher is that Jeff Gordon is your favorite driver. That explains a lot. One thing I cannot figure out is how a southern redneck can be a Gordon fan, what is the world coming to.

Hey Lou I agree that Bodine shouldn't still be in the race , he is definitely past his prime, but I certainly enjoyed watching him compete for a lot of years. I am also admittedly biased as the Bodines are from Chemung, NY less than an hour drive from where I was born.

RE: All Star race rules change

I was at gordon's first nascar race( Petty's last ) and have watched gordon a long time. Have a signed Gordon Baby Ruth card! Waltrip was my man before Gordon but he was retiring and I liked Gordon's driving style. Sorry I offended you but oppions vary and your intitled to yours. Not sure why that makes me a redneck though. If you are such a Bodine fan thats a personal problem and again your choice. I've probably forgot more about nascar than you've ever known but I'm not going to lower myself into a name calling feast!! Thats cause I'm such a "REDNECK". Have a good day my friend. Ps, If you took a poll you'd find I'm not alone in my thoughts.

Yeah frank, I just checked your page too. I have respect for old school nascar fans and your military service. I to was in the service. 101 Screaming Eagles. Recently returned from Iraq as an adviser if you will. My old driver retired so I had to get a new one. Been a Gordon fan before he decided to dominate nascar. Oh well. kicked that horse enough. Good luck at Darlington and God Bless. Luck to all tonite.
