The council voted on a points change for the 2011 season in the Cup series. It was not a very popular vote but after polling the league, the majority of those who voted, opted to separate the team and driver points in the standings.
The council took this into account and voted to try it out for the 2011 season. If it takes away from the team format, we can switch it back in 2012.
We will consider it a success if more members run on multi-teams. A number of those members who voted said they will consider joining a new team since they will not have to worry about teammates points affecting their own scores.
We will still have the bonus points added each race like it has these past few seasons but they will only be applied to the team standings.
that was the best part about being on a team! trusting your teamates with your own well being in the standings. i still enjoy my teamates,but that takes a good part of that teamwork away! we still can work together to win the team title,but it doesn't effect my standings so i wont care as much! I DONT LIKE THE CHANGE!
I give the council a TON of credit for trying this. Not everybody is going to be happy, but I know I will continue to take the Team Championship seriously. I go back to my initial argument about JJ, he would not have won five in a row if his points would have been effected by how the 24, 88 and 5 ran. By making this change, it takes LDR closer to the actual NASCAR point system. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that the objective of the council? If it doesn't work, we can always go back. Thanks for listen to the non-council members, in my opinion that says a lot about how much the council cares about this league.
Thanks Jordan. You made some good points that I believed in from the beginning of the team concept. I think it gives strength to the teams. But my experience, on the council has always been positive as a group we seem to be able to debate without getting personal. Which is amazing for a group that have never met each other. We really need to find some middle ground place to meet some day.
