Well I don't think this announcement will be quite as big as the iphone 5, but here it is anyway, lol.
Some of you may have heard about a change in the Nationwide series next year involving the claimjumper bonus.
Since the 2007 season season we have ran the series with a claimjumper bonus (originally called the buschwacker bonus) but that will come to an end after this season. Since NASCAR changed their points system to allow a driver to only receive points in one series, there isn't as much full time Cup drivers in the field each week. Some weeks there are only 1 or 2 Cup drivers in the field. That can give someone a big advantage one week if they have an available driver when just about the entire field used theirs up. We would like to keep everyone on the same level each week.
There will be no more claim jumpers but we still wanted to keep a little something different in the Nationwide series.
A couple of months ago, the council voted and approved this new bonus game.
The Nationwide Ten Spot Gamble
Each week you will pick your 5 drivers. There will be no bonus 6th driver anymore.
Of those 5 drivers you will try to guess which one will likely finish in the top 10... Here's the spin though, depending on what class you pick, you'll get more points for that driver.
If you pick a class 1 driver, 10 points.
class 2 driver, 20 points
class 3, 30 points
class 4, 40 points
classs 5, 50 points.
If that driver ends in the top 5, add 5 more points. If that driver wins, add 10 points.
Of course if that driver finishes outside the top 10, you don't get any points. So it's up to you.... do you play it safe and pick a class 1 driver, or do you gamble and pick a class 3 or 4 driver for more points?
Example, say this week your gamble is Joey Logano to finish in the top 10 at Chicagoland. If Logano wins you will receive an extra 20 points to your total for the week.
Or if you wanted to try something a little tougher, you pick Brian Scott. If Scott finishes in 5th place, you'd get 35 points. So the bigger the risk, the bigger the reward.
Class 6 drivers will not be available to pick, only because you can get Cup drivers in good part time cars in that class and those points shouldn't be higher than the class 5 drivers.
So any feedback will be appreciated, I think this new format will really freshen things up in the Nationwide series and bring a whole new strategy to the game.
