Effective immediately the league is going to start using owners points rather than driver points when re-aligning the salaries in the Cup series or classes in the Busch Series. Throughout most of the standings it won't make that much of a difference, but when you get down to the bottom 35, that where things get a little more tricky. For instance, Michael Waltrip is in the top 35 of driver standings, but not owner standings. NASCAR uses owner standings to determine who will make the race each week.
After this weekend the Busch classes will be re-aligned. If Waltrip's car is not in the top 35 in owner points for the Cup Series, he will no longer be considered a Busch-wacker.
ok... scratch that for the Busch Series. Since drivers change rides too often in the Busch Series, it would cause too much of a problem. I will still go by drivers points in the Busch Series, but the plan is to use owners points in the Cup Series.
