Ok, now it's getting just a little crazy. Yeah, it's great for the guys in that they get extra practice laps in for Sunday's race but how many aspiring Busch drivers will they be shutting out of the race? I know the Cup drivers put more fans in the seats for Sunday's race but it's time that NASCAR puts a cap on these drivers. In a couple of years the Busch series is going to be an exact mirror of the Cup Series.
Will anyone be impressed that Kevin Harvick wins the Busch Series title? Not really... his Busch days should be behind him. He graduated into the Cup Series, that's where he belongs.
Racing against Cup driver are good for the Busch regulars since they have to drive their best, but if they can't make the race, how will that help them?
1. Fewer companion events. Make it extremely difficult for drivers to make it to both tracks. Have Cup Qualifying and the start of the busch race very close....
2. Change the Busch cars to "Pony Cars" and run different tires. Mustangs, Camaros, GTO's.....
3. Reduce the amount of money awarded to full time cup drivers in Busch Races.
4. Do not award driver points to cup drivers in Busch Series races.
5. Score the Busch races they do in ALMS type races, with different class winners and an overall winner.
6. Limit the amount of spots available to full time cup drivers. (I am not really a big fan of this idea, but whatever it takes).
Nascar has no wish to hinder the Cup guys in Saturday's races. The only Busch races that sell well are the ones when the Cup guys saturate the entry lists generally.
Until Busch teams can consistently put on a show worth watching by themselves, we are stuck with the Cup guys running the show. I know its a Catch 22 really, but trust me, I think Cup guys should only get five starts in Busch a year if they are in the top 35 in driver points at the Cup level.
oh yea, Mikey Waltrip should just retire and be happy with broadcasting...lol.
This subject has burned me up for years! If you wanna run cup, then run cup. If you run busch you take some young aspiring drivers chance at making to cup some day. Some teams dont have the funding to run cup, but the cup guys who run on Sat. get money from the big Sunday sponcers, and if anyone says they don't I would have a hard time believing it. 22 cup drivers is just plain BS!! And your right, it's nascar's fault for letting it happen.
The only problem is that there may not be enought regular busch series teams to fill the field if they limit the amount of starts of cup series driver can have
I don't know if that's true or not since there are a lot of up and coming drivers that miss a lot of races. They probably aren't that good to begin with though. NASCAR won't limit the amount of Cup drivers per race because its those drivers that put people in the seats.
Oh, and welcome Andrew... nice to have you in the league for next year and a new voice in the forum.
Interesting that you chose Labonte Racing as your name. We had a Labonte Motorsports in the league last year who was this really strange kid.
I've been kicking that horse for years guys! Glad to see yall realise this farce is damaging the Busch series. Though NA$CAR probably won't do a thing for years to come. This is exactly why I don't run fantasy Busch races. Its really Cup! This is a sad situation indeed.
