Dale Earnhardt, Jr. bumped Carl Edwards when Carl's car got loose coming off of turn 2 during the green-white-checker to win the CarFax 250. Casey Mears was credited with second, Robby Gordon third, Matt Kenseth fourth, and Mark Martin fifth. NASCAR is reviewing the results. There were 8 caution for 29 laps.
That was an awful childish display by Carl Edwards. Pulling into the 8 pits, requesting NASCAR black flag the 8 and then tearing down pit road in order to run into the side of the 8 car while he was doing a cool down lap. From the in-car camera it is clear to see that Dale Jr could have easily been hurt by Carl. His hand was out the window and he was taking an easy lap while NASCAR decided the winner.
I lost a lot of respect for Carl today after all of his actions.
Thinking back to Chicago...... let's not get started on Junior. Same EXACT thing.... even if he DID get loose. (What happened to Kenseth?, Thought so!)
Hmmm, i wonder if the same conversation will arise with people bashing jr.......i know i am against nascar on this..he should have been black flag same as gordo
I heard all the boos on TV.....hopefully that will continue. There is nothing I hate worse than 50 million band wagon fans who don't really give a crap about Jr, but claim to be one of his fans.
At Texas in 2000, I went to Dale Jr.'s souviner hauler before the race to buy a shirt and a hat. Darrell Waltrip was my driver, but he was retiring. I had chosen Jr. to be my new driver. I WALKED RIGHT UP TO THE HAULER AND BOUGHT MY STUFF. NO ONE ELSE WAS IN LINE. There were more people next door buying Lowes stuff for Mike Skinner (I know some newbies are scratching their heads sayin who the hell is Mike Skinner).
Band wagon fans, go home, go away or go buy Waltrip hats.
The big difference with Gordon and Kenseth is that Gordon could have easily passed Kenseth since he was much faster than him. He even had a few laps left to do it. Instead, he zoomed up right behind him and punted him. With Jr and Edwards it was different... Jr, Edwards and R. Gordon were all fighting for the lead on the last lap of the race. Edwards was loose and slid up in front of Jr who then got into the back of him. Yes, Jr. could have backed off a bit, but it was the last lap and I don't think it was as intentional as Gordon punting Kenseth. Either way, it was both drivers going for the win and I never said Gordon should have been black flagged. The same goes for Jr. Yeah, Jr. heard the boos in victory lane too, however it was just hard racing at the end.
I also think that it was pretty unclassy of Edwards to act the way he did at the end, especially running up to ram Jr's car. Well it should be interesting to see if the official results change any as well.
And I'll add this: Carl Edwards is a baby.......he whines worse than Stewart and expects everything to be handed to him more than Johnson does. I have not all of a sudden stated this after yesterday. I have been calling Edwards an idiot since he came in to Cup.........look on old posts.
Maybe Edwards just watched 'Days of thunder' for the first time and thought, the next time someone does that to me, thats what I'm gonna do back to them.!!LOL Cole Trickle Rules.
carl edwards has the right to whine because nobody should be intentionally wrecked.....when they talked to him i didnt see him say" he should be kicked out for years" no he said we'll have to just keep trying its too late to change it now.......Robby gordon should have seen edwards break loose and move down to let jr have some room and get around edwards cleanly....all tho i dont blame him.....but jr could have hurt someone doing it just like every other wreck that is intentional whether it is the last lap or the pace laps
so in your 'ideal' world, everytime a driver gets loose, especially on the last lap, all the other drivers on the track should do their best to avoid him even if it means they wreck themselves or knock themselves out of contention for the win?
If you remember the winston (or Nextel all-star race if you will) a few years ago, Jr. got into the back of Newman coming off turn two and backed off to let him regroup.
Newman went on to win. Jr. said he didn't want to win like that.
I think if he could have found a better way to handle the situation Saturday, he would have. 190 mph, a guy in front of you slips up, you have a damn good run on the high side and there is a car (which you own) down on your inside. Make a better decision, in a split second. I dare ya to. Please also remember that Jr. is driving a car with a sponsor on it. I am sure the sponsor wouldn't mind him winning. Its not quite as easy as saying "he coulda let off". Now Carls action after the race......a grown man should be able to keep his emotions in check a little better. Either that or not be behind the wheel of a 3400 lb. machine....
Emotions in check, I dont know. Its what makes Nascar the best sport or way of life in the world. Just look at the past, Donnie Allison and Cale Yarborough fighting in the grass off turn three at Daytona. Darrell Waltrip and every driver he raced with. Dale sr. had a few, Michael Waltrip punching Lake Speed in Michigan. The list goes on and on, Im not saying what Carl did was right. Im a easy going guy but who knows what would happen if I was in the same situtation and my Emotions got the best of me and made me do something I would regret later. Its easy for us to say they should have done it this way, But untill we are setting in the car thats pulling away from the field and a caution comes out and puts 2 cars on you, one on the inside and one hitting you in the rear bumper 2 or 3 times coming out of turn 2 with 2 laps to go and you get spun, we cant cant say how we would handle it. You said Jr backed off of Newman because Jr. said he didn't want to win like that. Well i guess his philosophy of winning has changed. Have fun and Good Luck
All of us Jr. fans are defending him and really none of those hendrick boys have said to much yet like we all thought they would. Is it because they agree with us or have they just not checked in here the past few days?
We just realize that there is nothing to talk about, all Jr fans are the same. They give their big ol speeches about how the situations are opposite... when they are exactly the same. No one wants to admit that now that their driver used the same tactics as Gordon to win a race... they were wrong about everything they said before.
Oh well, we know what happened, even if ya'll won't admit it.
Lou, it's okay, no one is perfect! Even I have been wrong once or twice, but not this time... haha
Again wrong. Junior made it the last lap when he wrecked Carl. There was still a lap and 3/4 to go. It was already a green white chekered, and when the caution came out... the race was over.
Couldn't sit this one out...Stewart's wreck of Edwards and Bowyer at Pocono (and Kenseth earlier in the year) was intentional and he should have been tossed out of the race. Problem there is Home Depot is a major NASCAR sponsor. Jr's spin of Edwards was just a product of the "win now at all costs" that is NASCAR today. Junior has a fan base that desperately wants him to be his dad (he's not even half as good), and a mom and sponsors that may have to consider other options if he doesn't start winning something soon...
Red Pike, first off let me applaud you by voicing your opinion and welcome you into the boards..........please visit frequently.
but, I gotta tell ya, you are way off your rocker in your thinking that Jr. isn't the real deal.
-----anyone else find it disturbing that Edwards got probation for using his car as a weapon while Jr. got docked 25 points just for saying the word ****......whoops, Lou, are you going to dock me now?
