TNT looking at no commercial breaks in 2007?Sports Business Journal reports that TNT is floating a package to potential advertisers that would allow advertising during the race broadcast and eliminate commercial breaks. The advertising would take place on the screen during the broadcast and allow continuous race coverage. TNT will broadcast six Nextel Cup races next summer. The story reports that officials from Turner and NASCAR would not comment. The story also reported that TNT's Cup ratings are down 8.3% from last season.(Roanoke Times)(10-18-2006)
I really don't know if I could see this happening or not but it definately sounds interesting. I wonder what kind of advertising they would have during the race since NASCAR consists totally of advertising to begin with. TNT receives so much flack for the amount of commercials... even if they were able to do a side-by side like ESPN does with Indycar it would be better.
it sounds like that is exactly what they have in mind.........a great step for sure, but nothing innovative. I think the networks as a whole should try and take steps to further enhance the broadcast no matter where it is being shown. Television has taken the fans for granted for far too long.
